Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

So you accept that Barkley actually was injured and unable to play?

Why would Chelsea, or anyone for that matter, sign a player that was injured and unable to play?

People are acting like Barkley fabricated his injury to do Everton out of money. The injury was real, and he could have left for free if he'd waited a few more months.

Yes he was obviously injured. I never said he wasn't. But the deal was done and he could have gone for a decent fee. Instead he let the contract run down and went for half as much. He didn't kick another ball for us.

Our owner literally went on SSN moaning about it after the window closed. There are ways to leave the club who gave you a top flight career and there are ways not to leave. He chose the wrong way to leave in my opinion, but fair enough. It's his career.

I doubt he had any say about it to be honest, his agent would have done it. Let's face it he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
On the other hand he's an adult and he can make his own mind up.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/02/ross-barkley-medical-chelsea-everton

The article has both Barkley and Moshiri confirming that he was injured at the time. As if we'd expect Everton to buy a player in the summer when they are going to be injured until Christmas. Everton backed out of signing Leroy Fer because 'there was a possibility that he might get injured in the future'.

Are they the facts? My understanding was he went for a medical and Chelsea decided to leave it because he was injured. I don't believe Chelsea were gagging to sign him, but Barkley was saying "No, please don't buy me now, wait until January so I can save Mr Abramovich a few quid".

He didn't decide anything, he got told cos of the extent of his hamstring injury he wasn't going to play until Jan, so Chelsea pulled it and made a point to sign him then instead. Which meant everything went down...fee, contract.

And funny enough...they were gagging to sign him. He had one of his better seasons the previous year

Don’t want this reptile anywhere near Everton
You have a short memory mate
Him and his agent generated his move away
Like I’ve said in the past this whopper had a career threatening injury whilst on England duty.Everton stood by him and he behaved the way he did. Let him rot somewhere else please.
I generally agree with you on most things but not on this.
Wow, not many people would admit to this!:p

There is no question about his injury and teams do sign players with injuries. Only Everton sign them then injure them.

You're correct we wouldn't expect Everton to sign a player that will be injured for 4/5 months, but this is Chelsea which is effectively a football player farm. The fee was agreed etc and he chose to turn it down yet moved to the same club as early as possible in the next transfer window.

I'm sorry mate I don't get your point it's clear as day what happened here. I'm not against him coming back as he really has got all the tools to be a fantastic player apart from his intellect.

Anyway, Ross isn't good enough to be brought back. His career has been in decline ever since the second half of Koeman's first season. He only improves our squad because our squad is terrible. He isn't actually that good anymore.

I think he is...but you get about 2 months out of him, then he falls off a cliff. That's cemented in him now as a player that he needed to lose when he left us.

Sarri used him loads (was basically him and Kovacic rotating) then Lampard bombed him out over Mount. He started on fire at Villa then couldn't get a game.

Not advocating it...but it'll be the Conquistador's choosing if it happens

I'm not going to get really upset if we take him on loan because he's not worse than some of our current squad. There's an argument he could be a short term upgrade as you say. But I still lean quite strongly towards not signing him. I think he's a free agent in in June so I could definitely see it happening but I wouldn't personally consider giving him a 3 or 4 year deal. We need to improve but Ross Barkley will not improve us anywhere near enough.

I would actually be more interested on Lingard on a free if that's possible although I suspect he's joining West Ham.

Still got 2 years left on his contract I think. 2023 it's up.

Mate, you do get my point, you've just explained it. He was injured, he was going to be out for months, so the transfer was delayed, by which time he only had six months left on his contract so his value had decreased. I don't believe that Chelsea were gagging to sign an injured player that was going to be out for half a season, only for Barkley to put a stop to it.
