Fair enough. I'm not in love with him. However, I do fear an injury to Doucoure towards the end of March, with everyone thinking we are safe from relegation because we are 9 points away from 18th. We then go winless in April, and suddenly we are 3 points away from relegation with three games to play.

Our central midfield is championship standard without Doucoure. I think the likes of Barkley and yes even Longstaff walk into our abject central midfield at the moment. For me, its the area that needs strengthening the most, although we do need a right back as well. I think we'd be mad not to take Barkley on if he was available on loan.
Agree except to the Longstaff bit, there are literally thousands of midfielders better, faster and more athletic than him

end of season on a free as hopefully we can get rid of a few at cm to replace them and bring another cm in i would have no problem
This would be an absolute joke signing but hey, he’s free! Immobile, slow and one paced is the last thing we need in a midfielder.

You seriously have to question Rafael’s rebuild if this is the direction we’re going. Lower half of the prem player we’ll be stuck with for three years of his contract.

Game against Man Utd the other day his best game in the last two years. Can’t say no enough.

history aside i would not know where Barkley will fit it. We normally play 4-2-3-1 i rather have some one like Richarlison central behind DCL. As Barkley just doesnt score enough goals. If we bring in a "nr 10" i rather want someone who can also play in the wide areas.

Dixon and Merson asking Arsenal to put in a "massive" bid for DCL "as soon as hes fit".

If anyone offers a big enough amount then any player is for sale but im not sure who we could replace DCL with that would improve us mid-long term.

agree remember how long it took us to find a replacement for Lukaku who would score around 10-15 goals each season as a central striker. And yes we have had Richarlison but a free scoring central striker took until the Anchelotti era really for Dom to come through.

Weve got Gray/Gordon on the left.

If Benitez continues with his Centre forward, support striker and right winger alongside them then thats 6 players needed. 3 to start and 3 to rotate in/out for competition.

So even if we sold DCL or Richarlison we would need to replace each with 2 or 3 players...depending on who out Dobbin, Simms, Iwobi, Rondon and Townsend remain.

Sorry I forgot that he was only allowed to make one suggestion so after the manager said no to dumfries, he couldn't suggest another
Just seems odd that we were after Patterson when rb was our manager and apparently still after him. Makes me think that he was not a brands target. Just curious why you think he was

It's certainly curious as to what may have happened for the manager to reverse his position on the player. Maybe a big sponsorship is coming in?
We'll see on that. The only mention of this so far is "the bobble" - who it's clear to me is regurgitating scottish newspaper tittle tattle.

If the worst came to the worst and he was signed, he's decent going forward and getting crosses in, but utterly 'kin hopeless as a defender. He'd get the back torn out of him in this league, so I can only think he'll be benched for most of the rest of this season and Coleman or Kenny starts while he tries to get to grips with the huge step up in level.

Is he really a hopeless defender?
