Longstaff was good under Benitez at Newcastle. Most NUFC fans claim Bruce ruined him. Could be a good option on the cheap.

On a free transfer it makes perfect sense when Delph & Siggurdsson are out of contract in the summer and Gbamin/Gomes' futures are not certain here either.

This is 100% the issue. If Carlo had gone for him, there'd be far less hate. The fact is, we are not in a position to have a squad of 25 worldies. We need players like this while we shift all the high earning dead wood. I am not a fan of him btw, I just see the reasons behind these type of signings. Blame the mess on the last 5 years, not the last 5 months

Unfortunately Barkley would improve our awful midfield. We only move the ball up by hit and hope long balls and Barkley isn't the brightest but he can move the ball forward

Exactly mate. He's still young enough to add value too. He's also better than Davies, Gbamin and Delph.

….you say that like he’s the only player on the market who can ‘move the ball forward’. Barkley isn’t the only player available.

Much better get somebody progressive who plays like the game matters, has more athleticism and pace and a hamstring that isn’t made of toilet paper.
