We have Townsend, Gray, Gordon and Richarlison who can do a job on the wing. For the forward roles we have DCL, Richarlison and Rondon (Benitez will use him), plus Simms and Dobbin coming through.

If you recruit a player he will get used ahead of Gordon, in the same way Rondon is used ahead of Simms or Dobbin. The result of Rondon blocking a lace is that Dobbin will move on. Blocking another good young player doesn’t make sense to me, particularly when CM and CB need attention.

"Doing a job" isn't gonna cut it if you are aiming for a top 6 finish or getting to a Cup Final mate!

Agree to disagree I just think people are getting carried away with Gordon based on his brace against Brighton - lads still developing and Townie has always been hot and cold hence him being a squad player for Crystal Palace ultimately.

Our options now are good if you aim for 10th-12th every season and accept 2-3 injuries will kill you.

Squad Depth/quality has to be the aim long term.

Getting to a cup final? You're not even arsed when we get knocked out of cups let alone try win one.

For about 2 games he would be ace. Then he would not care less and spend most of his time out injured.
The same was said about James. Yes he was always injured and didn’t care, was still our best player by a county mile and his stats weren’t too shabby. Better than anyone else in that midfield by a long shot. Anyway, we are gonna sign the geordie Tom Davies soon, hurray.

Completely different players.
Don't want either. But signing older players on big contracts has really served us well all right.

Like I sad though

CM and CB are in worse shape for depth. Richarlison can cover a wide role in addition to Gray, Gordon and Townsend, so there are options.

If we want more options, developing Simms and Dobbin makes sense to me. The CB and CM are more pressing to me.
