Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Hard to really judge from the MLS.
Honestly, I never get how scouts do their job. I could tell you who stands out in a match but if they are looking for specific things I haven't a clue what it is. It's incredible to have that much insight to the game to know how a player in one continent could be in a completely different one.

I’m willing to part-exchange Iwobi for Alli. Any chance Spurs would fall for this?

Or

We can just give him them for free and pay for Alli.

A lot of it is stats of course but a lot of it is the eye test and a leap of faith with some. You can watch some players in weaker league and just know they can do it in ours.

That’s not what we are talking about, we are talking about how much we paid for rondon, he was free, no one is disputing he is a waste of money
All players take a wage , that is not how much they cost though

Common sense really
I get your point.
I just felt that the wage is part of the overall cost to club of the player.
You can’t disregard that cost because it is part of the clubs outgoings and his presence on the wage bill restricts our available budget.
This is especially true of Rondon since his age means we are unlikely to recoup any of outlay on him.
No manager can afford too many of these failures.

Im probably being a bit touchy, but when it comes to us bringing in a useless lump on big wages it really annoys me considering our position wrt FFP. His wages hurt the club thats why i get sick of hearing he was free. They could have me on their books and it wouldn't cost them a fee but my £50/week would hurt the club and i would still be more useful than Rondon.

Not sure we would get way with that due to the Arsenal connection and the fact that he is absolutely rubbish. I bet his uncle Jay Jay Okocha, now 48 years old, is a better player that Iwobi even today

What a bloody nightmare of a signing.

Even as someone who backs Benitez i know there are things we can call him out for, but his overall transfer work really isnt one of them
He has signed 6 players now . One is a success . One is average . One is hopeless. One is a back up keeper. 2 yet to prove themselves.
We can't say his transfers are a success either can we . But again not the point . The point is there is no point signing average bench players as you suggested and expect to improve.

But that is the one thing Rafael is doing very well, buying cheap quality,, we havent done that for years

….no doubt, Gray and Townsend have been terrific signings and supports my view that there is quality and value out there. It’s obviously more difficult to find those types but that’s the challenge.

We really shouldn’t buy players who are not good enough to start.

I could be completely off, but I think El Ghazi is being considered because Richarlison is off this summer. That would leave us Gray/El Ghazi on the left and Gordon/Townsend on the right (gordon/Gray can play either side really - so can El Ghazi). My guess is between the stadium, FFP and our lack of ability to attract top talent a direct replacement for Richy may not be on the cards. Especially when the midfield and central defense need so much work and we still need a striker.

Brennan Johnson fills the same gap (and would be my choice) but i think we are having to be quite creative financially...

With Digne going for £20-25m and £119k a week off the wage bill, we have more wriggle room to find another midfielder in.

It's smart business though Digne is a good player but bringing in two young defenders.

Problem being past managers have thrown away a lot of money on players who have failed miserably....and now we are shopping at Aldi in the January sale bargain bins....RB has his hands tied here ....team needs huge investment in the summer
