The comments from Benitez about needing a link player are interesting:

"If you play a 4-2-3-1 this player behind the striker is the one who can link. In this case, we have been using this position was Richarlison, we've used Gray and Iwobi in this position. We're looking to find this player to link with others."

"In terms of wingers, we're replacing that number 10 with quality from out wide. Maybe we don't need this number 10 because Richarlison and Dominic are doing well as the strikers."

Very curious to know the profile he is looking for in that role. It seems from that comment that he wants to play either a 442 with two strikers and two wingers, or a 4231/4411 like we have seen on several occasions. If there was a new "link" player behind the striker, would that mean Richy and Gray as the wide players? That would be shockingly attacking for Benitez. Unless that player is more of a midfielder playmaker.
Maybe don't play 4-2-3-1? Just a thought.

I can't believe we're on our seventh manager since 2013 and they've basically all wanted to play that system. You can do other things.

It didn’t sound to me listening live that he’s trying to sign a number 10, just he was asked specifically about that position.

That was my take anyway.

Seeing Derby County needing to sell, we should be in for Ireland's Jason Knight.

Young, energetic, tough, experienced all round central midfielder who has international experience which Longstaff can't say he has.

Derby would command £8-10m but with their financial constraints, £4-5m would be fair. We have been linked with the 20 year old so I hope he would be viewed as a better option than Longstaff in terms of wages and fee plus potential.

Saw him recently on tv, think it was against West Brom. He played well and has a lot of energy. He stood out to me, a bit like when Mount was there, although not quite at that level.
