….from what Lampard says, we’ll be playing on the front foot. Less emphasis on allowing the opposition to have possession and hit them on the break.

i think you can beat many teams in this league with that approach. Whilst being strong defensively is always a factor, i doubt Lampard will build his team on defence,
Can’t really argue with that plan, if that’s what’s he said?

That's the big blot from this window.

My hope is the new energy and, hopefully, quality - combined with renewed positive mentality from a new manager - will relieve the burden on the defence and ultimately save us having to rely on our circus at the back as much.
I think the thinking with the signings we’ve made is ball retention, and that helps all departments. Yeah, the quality of our defending hasn’t been great but that’s magnified so much by the *quantity* of defending they have to do because so often we just gift the ball straight back.

Players who can put their foot on the ball and play a few passes give the defence a breather and let them get set in shape. So I think that strange as it sounds buying these players might do more for our defending than buying defenders would.

I do understand Lampard and the club seeing that we needed more quality through the midfield. That makes sense.

I think the slightly concerning thing is that we've been shipping goals all season and we've signed neither a number 6 to protect our defence nor a centre back.
