Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Moyes proving the squad was far better than what the flag-waving coward told the owners probably means it was only going to be loans so we could keep as much cash for Summer as possible. The bottom 3 are turgid, so no point in committing money to players who won’t make the squad better, those 3 won’t be anywhere near our points total at the end of the season.

There's no way Moyes only wanted 1 player. Clearly something has not gone to plan

Is it a lack of money? Has Moyes not been backed?

Has Moyes turned down lots of players?

Are the players we are targeting for Moyes not good enough ?

Is our recruitment process in need of an overhaul?

I dont now. But I imagine at least one of the above is true.
The players who were available to sign were not good enough for Moyes

One fit striker...

One LB...

The players are there if you have a competent recruitment team, Thelwell has to go, too many times he has left gaping holes in this squad, seems like every window he fails to address the real issues...

This is why Everton will never be anything than mediocre, we will never win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League in the next 40 years.

Small club mentality!

100% this. If we're not going down and there's no amazing options available we should keep our powder dry

If they're gonna wait until the summer I suppose it's understandable, I just hope they hit the market as quickly as possible in the summer and give a potential new look squad as much time to gel together as possible in pre-season.
Quickly and Everton don't go together...unless there are some major changes in the organization before then. I am wondering if it suits our new owners too...no need to spend, we'll be alright we have moyes...make money with the new stadium...

I don't get this that we are not spending the money because the value out there is not great. The reality is that average players cost a lot of money nowadays. This will not change in the summer. To find value you need the best recruitment team that is able to identify talent before you or usual suspects, something we are incapable of.
It’s pretty well known that transfers tend to cost more in January than in summer. Clubs charge a premium due to knowing it weakens their squad mid season and other clubs are getting desperate.

I see that we aren't going to storm the league - but we are stiill in a cup - would have been nice to go all out for it.

Anyway, c'est la vie let's see how we do with what we've got, a few injury returns and better coaching.

If Moyes is happy, I’m happy.

At the start of the month, this window was do or die. The results Moyes has got has given him the luxury of waiting until the summer and being a bit pickier.

It’s not a crisis now and we don’t need to throw money at transfers as a punt to stay in the league
If you take January as a whole it’s been a brilliant month: Dyche replaced by Moyes, three wins on the bounce, dragged ourselves clear from the relegation stragglers to the mid-table pack, and an exciting young Argentinian about to be announced.

More would always be nice but really nothing we do or don’t do today alters the fact the club is in monumentally better shape today than the start of the year.
