Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Presumably references to loaning Chermiti out are nonsense? That would be quite the decision with a want-away Dom, an on loan striker who gets injured by the playing surface, and Beto.

I mean to be fair we have 4 strikers for 1 position so would make sense to give him game time elsewhere if we keep the other 3.
Oh in terms of raw numbers defo. And he is ready for solid minutes at his age. But Chermiti is the only one this season who hasn’t already shown he is categorically incapable of scoring. Looked much stronger and filled out in pre season than previous cameos.

Think the links are from before Broja altered the Earths orbit pattern around the Sun by punting the floor, so that will have changed minds anyway. But if all 4 were fit, I’d sooner shed Beto or Dom. I think.

Really hard to know. The team has no idea how to use Beto, the Dom situation just needs lancing, and it would appear, Broja who looked to be made of glass, is actually made of something more fragile than glass.

Worth considering that if we are even slightly restricted by PSR, then any striker we could acquire and stay within the limits will definitely be crapper than what we already have. Unless we have a guaranteed buyer for JB in June. But we aren’t getting £80m for him on current form.

This can't be true. Wtaf?
Well, I'm being told that it's sensible to 'tie down your assets', even though the lad will already earn more atbus than any other club will pay him, and we'd have to presumably increase his wages to give him a new deal.

It’s like people have forgotten the cautionary tales of Keane, Holgate, Schneiderlin, Tosun et al. and what happens when you give big money and long contracts to poor players.

It really isn’t.
Terrible commercial deals, and massively overspending on underperforming players who are on inflated wages that we can’t get rid of every time we change manger and formation every year to 18months is why we are knackered.
Having a fan (Kenwright), who knew nothing about football and was softer than sodding custard when it came to negotiating for two decades is where the rot was.
This is what you are advocating!

No. I’m dating this is problem that led us to the brink financially, not the renewing of players contracts, so they can add to squad depth cheaply.
It's only "cheap" if they offer something. Mykolenko is losing us games at the moment. We shouldn't spend any more money on him than we have to. He should be nowhere near the side but, due to absolute insanity in our recruitment, he is the only left back at the club.

Why are you presuming that we'll increase his wages? We could be adding in relegation release clauses in exchange for salary reductions in the event we drop. It could be a single year on the same wages which allows us to hold value for a sale. It could be a salary reduction on a longer contract which he may be ready to accept as he knows he's overpaid and is guaranteeing a work permit. He can hardly go home...

There are numerous things that could be happening and this contract is a long way down the list of my concerns.
