Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We need a cohort of players coming in, one won’t be enough unless they’re an absolute baller.

CM, number 10, wide forward for me

Just getting another striker in isolation won’t change anything unless it’s a prime Luis Suarez
Prime Luis Suarez would still struggle when there's no prime Edison Cavani and no prime Diego Forlan to create the chances for him as per prime Oscar Tabarez tactics.

You could stick Enzo Francescoli and Juan Schiaffino into the Everton attack with Suarez and we'd still struggle to score.

Speaking of Tabarez, is he still alive and, more to the point, available to take over next week?

Some players can change the attacking nature of a team completely by itself if they’re good enough. You could put Lewandowski in this team and he makes little difference as the service isn’t there. You put in a Kaka type and he’s picking up a bad ball in midfield, spinning two and turning it into an attacking position.

We need those types of players, swapping out DCL for Beto for Broja doesn’t make a difference and McNeil being out has removed one of the last links between midfield and attack.

That’s why I’d almost put whatever money we have into a creative mid, 10 or goalscoring wide player because I think just buying another number 9 who needs service does nothing for this team.

A top notch right winger or attacking midfielder who can both score and create must come in.

And a manager who can spell the word "attack."

Agreed, if we could pair them with a deep lying dictating mid that would be ideal (e.g a Tonali type) but these players cost a fortune and are hard to find. They can turn defence into attack with one pass though. Doucoure Mangala Gueye aren’t these players.

It’s a lot easier to attack when you have the players to do it. We’re almost a walking football team, Harrison swapping for Lindstrom swapping for McNeil, swapping for Ndiaye, not an ounce of pace anywhere.

No pace in the backline

No pace in midfield

No pace out wide

No pace upfront

Most other teams have it virtually everywhere
