Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Might have something to do with the fact the sort of clubs he has been linked with in the past are beyond who we can compete with regardless of price Zat.

I dont agree with this. I think we've seen in the past how certain players have chosen other clubs over us based on many factors:

Style of play
Location
Manager
Other players
Even stadium / training ground
Wages / taxes

Circumstances can quickly change in football and whether we could get him and whether Wolves or him would be open to a deal...you never know unless you try!

In a nutshell. Neither club weakens to strengthen a rival. Plus what do you honestly know about Davies? Prospect nothing more. Bid in summer if we stay up and they go down. Same for Ait-Nouri but can't see him here.
Both clubs will likely go down. Both will sell.

I mentioned Davies on another forum in the summer - athletic with a nice delivery. The opposite of Myko

I’m not ignorant; I’m just not thick. If they go down why would they suddenly accept £20m? Burnley went down last year and Odobert went for more than that and he was very unproven.

Odobert looked good for Burnley & is a winger while Ait-Nouri is a left back / Left wing back so in theory would be cheaper.

The position of Thelwell is an interesting one. He has done some good things in his time here.

He has reduced the net spend on players , reduced the wage bill whilst providing a squad of slightly better quality and that's impressive.

However his failure to sign a decent forward and a right back is alarming.

I don't know if TFG will retain him or have a complete clear out.

I'd probably go for a complete clear out especially if we could entice a painting of say Ragnick and Turzic to work together.
It's alarming to an extent, however I think we have to be realistic that he's had one arm tied behind his back in terms of reducing the wage bill and...

... more importantly how deals were to be structured. Even if we've been interested in a player, we've had to rely on teams accepting money on the drip.

Most teams, understandably, have said no to the terms offered, which has limited who we've been able to bring in. TFG will bring in much-needed flexibility.

In terms of the right back situation, it's been a bug-bear of mine because it's really restricted us, yet looking at it objectively we already have the players there.

With our limited finances available to outlay on players, before considering the harsh wage situation, I can appreciate why it hasn't been resolved as yet.

Removing all the sentimental nonsense, Seamus needs moving on and his wages freed up, but we may also need to sell Patterson to help afford it.

Can demand whatever they feel is a fair price.
They won’t get the same value if they were a Premier League club.

This isn’t a groundbreaking statement - we’re absolutely all aware they lose some of their bargaining power when relegated.

I’m not saying you’ll get either player on a cut price, £5m deal. But I think you could get either around £20m which is the going rate for a decent PL player in 2024/2025.

Well at the start of next season we won't have Young or Coleman ( I would be incredulous if we offered them new deals).

We have to take a view on Dixon. Is he good enough to be back up ? Based on what little I've seen - yes.

So, next question is do you want Patterson to be your starting full back and is he going to stay fit? It's probably a no to each of those questions so yes I'd move him on and buy a starting full back.

It's a similar situation up front.

Is Beto good enough to be starting or back up ?

Is Chermiti going to stay fit and good enough to be back up?

Is DCL going to sign a new contract and do we even want him to for £130k per week with such a poor goalscoring record?

Hate to sound like Zat but I think I'd let DCL go , move Beto on and bring in a quality striker.
