Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

He's also 27 in September and would cost at least 30m (22.5m is his current break even PSR value so they simply wouldn't sell below that number) and want wages well over 100k as he's on 80k pw plus bonuses already at Chelsea, very reminiscent of the types of deals that we did under Moshiri, paying to fees and wages for players the wrong side of 25 so with little resale value for the club.
Take your overall point but surely there has to be a cut-off for this sort of thing? We're surely still in "just turned 26 in September" territory.

Yeah I knew it was set to plummet, the weird advantage of not really spending nowt for 3-4 years straight 😂

Just from looking through previous seasons. This summer the following drop off PSR.

Godfrey 5.5m
Maupay 3m

Not a huge drop in reality, but wages factor in also which includes all the players leaving on frees - ballpark figure if all OOC players leave us is around 550k per week give or take - best estimate which is a PSR reduction of around 26m per season roughly.

So if we are currently compliant with head room of around 10m say, the scope we'd have would be approx 35m additional not including the current 10m in terms of PSR - assuming zero change in revenue over last season but that pretty much has to cover any new amortized costs incurred this January and next summer AND the costs of all incoming wages going onto the books.

obviously the new stadium will see a big uptick on revenue along with commercial deals etc so we in theory should have a huge room in terms of PSR but with a lot to do with that room.

Doucoure, Gueye don't count against PSR currently btw due to their initial contracts having ran the course and them being into an extension now.

This current season saw a much bigger drop on amortization costs btw, roughly 38m came off it and we still needed a sale of Onana to ensure compliance

Gomes also came of PSR last year too, and it pile have been around 5m.

I'm just of the opinion that for the next few years we need to avoid the money pit players mate.

Not saying all we should sign is kids, but we should be looking at any major outlay in terms of will it have resale value, something under Moyes btw first time was a very clear strategy.

Can't sink massive fees on players who are already in the one contract and on the slide by the end of it category. Not yet, that's something teams already established and successful can do.

….would you think TFG would know this level of detail? From what I’ve read, they make key appointments and let them get on with their job. I dare say they’ve said what the spend envelope is but I’m not sure they’d be involved beyond that.

I don't think they'll be ringing the press or agents with links though.

I completely agree with all of that mate, just making a linguistic point about the threshold for “turns X in Y” age construction. Proposing a formal 6 month cutoff!

January is a awful time, to do business. Not only selling clubs, will only sell players who don't get games. They are often reluctant to sell due having cover.

Anyone decent costs a lot more.

This excuse should’ve been buried with Kenwright. Absolutely sick of it. A complete get out of jail free card for the recruitment team and an excuse for them to sit on their arses and not even try. Too many frauds have been able to get away with playing that card over the course of the last decade at this club.
