Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Under Moyes in the January window:

Stones
Pienaar
Jelavic
Gibson
Donovan
McFadden
Velios
McBride

Tended to trade in January more in the second half of his 11 years here.
His last one was so frustrating. Desperate for a striker and legs in the middle, finished 6th but could have easily bridged the gap had we signed both of those

Just missed out on Fer and Negredo IIRC

Fer was hyped but he never really did that much at Norwich or Swansea IIRC.

Negredo was brilliant at Man. City for six months and then fell out of favour and went back to Spain.

Very interesting. Fully expect Everton to be among the vultures considering how much squad development needs to happen next summer. Aside from PSG, there’s a huge amount of affordable talent in Ligue Un. I really like the two wonderkids at Monaco, but I suspect Habib Diarra will be one of our first signings. Star of the future.

It’s also one of Moyes’s specialist areas. I remember years ago when he bid unsuccessfully for Michael Essien when he was at Bastia and Petr Cech when he was at Rennes. Just imagine. We tried to crowbar Nyarko into the deal due to lack of money

The Essien one really did sting.

For some reason I'm optimistic that we'll make signings before the end of the window, the worst January windows were the combo of brands who always broadcast that he was opposed to signing players during this time and moshiri who oversaw chaos throughout the season so we were always in need of reinforcements that never arrived , or were never used like Josh King or the aston villa dude

We didn't really just miss out on Fer, Kenwright and Moyes wanted to change the deal after it had already been agreed because of his medical issue and FC Twente rightly said no. The Negrado thing was completely fake, just an attempt to appease the fans after they messed up with Fer. His agent came out on deadline day and said he's not going anywhere, at the same time the club were briefing journalists that they were negotiating with Sevilla.

Yeah I don’t think Fer was all that but it was defo the sort of player we needed and it was gutting at the the time. Can’t even remember who our starting centre mids were that season now

Didn’t know the Negredo thing wasn’t true though

if he’s actually available at a relatively cut price deal, or a loan with obligation, then I’d suspect there’ll be a fair few teams interested in Edwards. He’s a proper right winger though so could be ideal for us and we may be able to offer first team football unlike others. Moyes has taken on ‘difficult characters’ before and had success, maybe the lad just needs a change of scenery. If he’s anything like Ndiaye but on the right side, we have to try. I wonder if they would be interested in a loan with obligation in summer? A loan for Edwards and a bid for Walker Peters and that may be a shrewd January. With injured players returning, we could be set up well for the second half of the season. So difficult to work in this window with our finances though.
That would be an absolutely typical Moyes-type signing and I'd be all for it. Maybe we could tempt them with a relatively high loan fee until end of season with an option to make it permanent if we wanted. The fee would undoubtedly be relatively low with just 12 months left come the summer.

He was rated at about £50m just a few seasons ago, and let's face it, nobody was particularly excited about the likes of Pienaar or Arteta joining back in the day, both also pretty much outcasts at the time.

Feels like Embolo madly just appears at international tournaments then disappears for 2 years then turns up again! Ha
I actually really like him, he's a proper target man and can finish, as displayed across numerous world cups. He could be our 2025 version of Yakubu, big, strong, good finisher, can hold it up, etc.
