Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Broja really was an awful loan. Thelwell gets credit for his persistent interest and eventual purchase of Ndaiye, but his hyperfocus on players has hurt us overall I think. He had a hard on for Broja since Richarlison left, he was never the answer. Nowhere near aggressive enough and an abysmal injury record. Gnonto is another example that didn’t happen but clearly we put way too much time into. The fact that we used one of our most valuable loan slots on a guy who wasn’t even fit for the first 3/4 months of the season is a joke. I doubt Chelsea let us cancel the loan- we will absolutely be paying for it (in more ways than one)
FWIW Moyes had a similar Obsession with Broja and tried to sign him a number of times for West Ham.

It wouldnt surprise me one bit if we were back at the negotiating table for him this summer

Genuinely intrigued on what basis?

He's a player who makes things happen, gets shots away and is still very young. Pretty similar to Buonanotte. When Brighton were finishing 6th in 22/23 he was playing his part.

People could've just said it about Ndiaye last year at Marseille not breaking into a 8th place team in France but he just needed to go somewhere to start every game and far more to come from him under Moyes.

For a side in the bottom three this is a decent signing to go with Delap and Hutchinson imo. Ipswich problem will remain however defensively if Godfrey is going to be their "star" defender signing of the window, completely useless against Man. City.
Good player IMO. Still young and coming back from an injury

Ok ok so the “let’s just wait til the last week of the window and see if we can get a bargain” strategy has never, ever, ever actually worked….BUT IT MIGHT JUST WORK THIS TIME.
Friedkin: “Marc Watts has formulated a brilliant new tactical plan to ensure final victory in the transfer market.”

Moyes: “Ah. Would this brilliant plan involve us waiting until the last day of the window?”

Chong: “How could you possibly know that, Moyes?! It’s classified information!”

Moyes: "It's the same plan we used last season, and the 17 seasons before that."

Friedkin: "Exactly! And that is what is so brilliant about it! It will catch the watchful Sky hacks totally off guard! Doing precisely what we've done eighteen times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time! There is, however, one small problem."

Moyes: " That we always end up with a crap loan signing".

Friedkin:"That's right. And the Chairman is worried this may be depressing the fans a tad. So he's looking for a way to cheer them up".

Moyes: "Well, his resignation and suicide seems the obvious choice".

Friedkin: "Hmm, interesting thought. Make a note of it Chongy".

I must admit the final twist was darker than I was expecting.

It could be a feature even without the context of requisite frugality but I always thought moyes was known to dither or be extremely thorough about potential recruitment was that the budget was somehow even more sparse and limited under the tightwad Kenwright then what we've even dealt with over the past couple seasons, so he had to be extremely delicate on who he was going to enlist, as I remember west ham making transfers pretty early under moyes but I could be wrong

He still had a rep for being overly cautious and slow when going for players

There's still a lot to do this season. Be foolish not to bring a couple in at least. We seen from the last 20 minutes against Spurs alone that we need more quality attacking options for when players tire late in games. Fingers crossed we start to see movement soon and it's more a case of us getting the right deals.

The win over Spurs was fantastic but isn't enough for me to say this team is going to ease away from the bottom 3.
