Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Lyon are 5th, 2pts off 3rd and as its a multi-club setup and they had all sorts of problems with the former owner they have the capacity to buy themselves out of any issues.

Lyon can't buy themselves out of anything if it increases their debt as they'll get relegated as a result by the french league. Aulas made some mistakes granted, but since taking them over Textor has sold about 250M worth of assets, and still increased debt by about 100M, to a current debt level of over 500M. He's using them to bankroll Botafago for god only knows what reason exactly. Since everyone knows now how bad things are any bids for players they get are likely to be significantly lowball on what they would get otherwise.

Their only other option is to sell the ground, but as the only Ligue 1 team to own their own ground, they'd be giving up a significant advantage because of the incompetence of a newbie owner.

I think they will sell the Palace shares to pay off the Lyon debt and also have the capacity to move players between clubs -- Botafogo I believe are moving Thiago Almada to Lyon in Jan.

I suspect they will continue with Botafogo& Lyon then seek to purchase another English club to then help to fund the other two as feeder clubs.

He spent approx 100M to buy the Palace shares. The co-owners have the right to block any sale he tries to make of those shares now. Grapevine says that he wants double what he paid, whereas the co-owners have only offered him approx what he paid for them. Even if you split the difference and say he gets 150M, that still doesn't cover the mistakes he's made so far, nevermind try to be used to buy another club.

Almada and Luis Henrique were both supposed to move to Lyon after a year. Problem is that he paid a high price for both. So to move them to Lyon now, he either needs to sell them for a pittance and let Botafogo take a huge financial hit, or pay their actual value and have either Lyon relegated or increase the number of players they need to get rid of for below value.

I know the intention was to float the Eagle Group and use that to buy another club in addition to whatever profit he could get from Palace. After what he's done to Lyon, I can't see many willing to invest with him. Its pretty obvious he hasn't a clue what he's doing.

Still 5th though & Botafogo are top :)

The weird moves for me are:
Mangala
Niakhate
Nuamah
O'Brien
Francis Gomes

None make any sense...

Everton are hoping to take advantage of Lyon’s situation to broker a cut-price deal for Orel Mangala, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet reported via their website on 16 November that the Toffees are “rubbing their hands” as they look to make Mangala’s loan move from Lyon permanent at a discounted rate.

Doesn't it show that the multi-club model doesn't really work though?

Unless you have Saudi like riches or a revenue stream outside the clubs that can sustain it?

There are a few Lyon players that would be worthy of consideration.

Cherki
Nuamah
Maitland-Niles (not great, but we currently have a 39 year old left back starting at RB).

We would need a change of manager to attract anyone half decent tho.

Mikautadze the Georgian forward is who Id be after, clever player him.

Is the plan for gomes to come back to us after his loan?

Assume so?

Hope not unless its incredibly cheap and we can easily resell in the summer though that doesnt really seem likely.

Steer clear.

Its all from outside investors.

The one id love is Cherki. Liked him for ages though not really seen him the last couple of seasons bar the odd highlight.

Others to look at imo:
Caqueret -- Good all rounder

Kumbedi -- Seems like a promising right back

Nuamah -- Though his attitude and performance this season seem off

Fofana -- Promising left winger

Then Orban & Mikautadze worth a look

Would typically hear of a name or two from Lyon coming through the system though no one apparent. Could be one or two in their youth teams.

But overall Cherki would be amazing.

Was stated for the past couple of days as a possible loan but i think there was a fairly reputable one saying only with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

That would be ideal. Id also sell DCL
DCL is within a few months of leaving for nothing and getting a better contract because of that

Why would he agree to be sold now?
