Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

That''s not true. Only from 2009 onward was the spending drastically cut. Up to that point Moyes got almost every penny raised in sales.

He simply didn't have an eye for a striker and he always misused the ones he did get, forcing them to run channels all day.
Arguably the 'best' striker he had was Bent and that was because he essentially ran himself ragged every game.

Patterson was signed 3 years ago, Young was signed 18 months ago. So yeah we’ve signed right backs in the last 5 years.

We will sign a striker because the need has arisen for us to sign one.

Chermiti and Beto were signed 18 months ago too.. yet we still need a striker …

I don’t see us signing one even though a agree we are seperate for one

Sometimes players have to take responsibility for themselves.
You can't blame Moyes because James Beattie didn't seem to be up for the fight.

Talking rubbish as usual. That's not how I remember it and a quick Google confirms it.

Beattie was bought for the same price as Anelka and Morientes that window. Andy Johnson was on fire at Palace.
Morientes was a flop and was at the end of his career. Johnson had one good season at Palace but lots of other strikers were also one season wonders. No big clubs were in for him and he was never in England contention. He was even at the Crouch/Defoe level let alone being top class. You really are clueless.

Your right, until 2009 our budget was about 10th deposit is finish 5th/6th year out. After that we dropped massively but miraculously he still kept us in the top 7.

That's not really true, he had consistently good form with Palace. He was also in and around the England squad, despite Sven preferring to give opportunity to those at 'big clubs'.

When we signed him, all the clubs vying for the Europa league spots were interested. Bolton, Wigan, West Ham.

He didn’t even do too bad. First season 11 goals. And we sold him for a profit to Fulham.

Moyes genius again.

I think we will only leave it til then if we are confident we have solid numbers for the Leicester game.

If it turns out that Mangala and DCL can’t play that game then I think we might push for a striker before then
in particular although Mangala replacement could probably wait if Garner or plays Tim are fit

There's more chance Messi signs for 30 quid a week and lines up v Leicester than either of those two lads mate, both at a minimum are out a month, I'd be shocked if either is back this season or ever plays for us again in truth.
