Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I'm weary of the mistakes made with past spending, but that cannot ever be used to justify inaction in this and subsequent windows.

We have a bare-bones squad in a vulnerable position. They simply must look to add to it .

We have years of catching up to do and have to start that straightaway. Years of austerity and lack of investment to be corrected.

If anything happens it won't be till Monday and was ever thus, and I expect some news then. The summer is a different beast in terms of dynamics but I would be amazed and very dismayed if Monday comes and goes without additions.

Let's leave it till then and hope for three points tomorrow, which, as welcome as they would be, doesn't in any way negate the need for business on Monday.

So our striker targets, if the rags are to be believed, seem to boil down to:

Castro - likely the best of the lot, also likely to not be coming here
Igamane - might have been interesting if not overpriced and needed to produce immediately
Ferguson - could have injury/substance issues
Awoniyi - injury issues and a bit poo

Maybe (hopefully) I'm missing someone

Castro aside, I'm not sure I would want to spend money on any of them. Beto with N'Daiye as cover is likely better than spending money poorly. If Igamane was 10 million, then he would have been worth a punt maybe, but not at 20 million.

We better hope they have a trick up their sleeve....

Need to see the loan deals we’ve signed if we are unable to cancel both broja and Mangala, can’t believe the fees would be too high, but then this is us and Kev the Red so…….

Your transfer policy shouldn't shift based on the results of 2 games.

2 more games and we could be 1 result away from the drop.

I also don't think it's subjective that this team needs investment.

You should always be trying to sign players who improve you.

Btw, Dele Alli - see your point but the irony is without his contribution, we'd likely have gone down that season. Not just talking his Palace game either, he also helped us rescue a point at the death vs Leicester.

But then your saying our transfer policy should based on the last game. Say the transfer policy is as i say only bring players in to improve us over 3-5 years and look for a return and we cant get them - should we change that policy or do nothing. That point works every way.

Again projecting is subjective - but the crux of my point is dont bring players in who wont improve us over the 3-5 years, so if we brought in players who didnt it wont make a difference to result or a loosing the hypothetical next 2 - Dele Alli for example.

The team needs investment, but it is subjective on when is the best time and what profile to invest in.

Agreed, we are essentially saying the same thing.

I dont know, if id give Dele Alli that much credit to be honest, that substitute appeared was ok, he didn't lift on his shoulders over the line - i think its become the stuff of folklore, prob because he was so bad and was involved in such a key moment, prob his one contribution. Either way the juice certainly wasn't worth the squeeze and he is a cautionary tale to the point im making!
