Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

The Friedkin Group have a history of high-profile free transfer signings. Dybala, Ndicka, Hummels, Hermoso at Roma. Who do you think is realistic for next summer? Summer 2025 free transfers

Obviously unrealistic: Leroy Sane, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tan, Jonathan David (I would have said this was possible last summer when West Ham almost signed him, but his Champions League form this year has kiboshed that), Denzel Dumfries

Realistic:
Angel Gomes:
Lots of talk about returning to United but Everton should go all out to sign him. Great age and a player to build the team around. Particularly if we got Carsley or Potter as manager. Carsley had Gomes as his chief playmaker in the U21 EUROS victory
Olivier Boscagli: I’d rather keep Branthwaite, but if he’s sold then this left-footed centre back is a good replacement. Almost signed for Brighton last summer (always a good sign). Physically small, but his passing ability is incredible. Exactly what a Potter/Sarri/Carsley manager would look for.
Kyle Walker-Peters: Excellent full-back on both sides for a team whose current RB/LB options are woeful. With Southampton going down this should be a no-brainer
Franck Anguissa: 29 but an excellent player in possession. Anguissa - Gomes in front of the defence would be well-suited to dictating a game. Similar attributes to Bissouma when Potter had the latter firing at BHAFC a few years ago.
Tariq Lamptey: Injury problems but with Coleman, Young and potentially Patterson all going in the summer, a good squad addition to full-back. Again, Potter got the best out of him.
Wildcard: Jorginho: only if TFG get Sarri in as their No. 1 choice. Jorginho is such as class act and a proper squad leader. 32/33 but never had pace anyway. Could be a really important Gareth Barryesque signing to help bring someone like Garner or Armstrong on

I guess if KT has been doing his job, then the whole point of having the DoF setup would be that a change of head coach shouldn't affect things much, if at all.

You do tho get a sense that there may not have been complete unity on recruitment strategy up to now, so perhaps we even see some fringe players being brought in from the cold by the next man.
This is my issue with our current predicament.
Do we need new players in January? Yes
Do I trust Thelwell to bring in decent quality attack minded players?
Maybe
Do I think Sean Dyche will utilize those players instead of continuing with the players he trusts?
Almost certainly no.

So what do we do? Do we spend money on targets for the next manager assuming Dyche will go as soon as the takeover is complete? How do we know what type of players to look for if we don't have a manager lined up? We certainly shouldn't be buying any players for Dyche in my mind, but if he hangs around somehow, it will feel like wasted expenses. Just like with O'Brien and Iroegbunam, and Patterson, Beto, Chermiti and any other young player with potential that never sees the pitch.

I just hope the Freidkens are working behind the scenes to advise the club as to what direction they should be taking.

I hope theyve had a quality director of football simmering behind the scenes watching us and gauging what we need, ready to hit the ground running as soon as they sack Dyche/Thelwell on day one.

Two full backs a midfield general and 2 forwards (that are not drawing pensions) that have scored goals regularly should do for now. Whatever the cost.

Anyone got a Times sub? Contract crisis sounds like the exact opposite of our summer situation

Much as I'm not a fan of many of our players, it probably isn't ideal for us to have to bring in a huge amount of players just to make up the numbers (without receiving any fees for those leaving), or for us to be potentially heading into a relegation battle with a load of players who've already signed PCAs elsewhere and don't fancy doing anything that might jeopardise their upcoming payday.

Simply says he can talk to foreign sides from Jan and local teams end of the season.

Then lists all our dross out of contract end of season.

…..concerning news @bluestevon;

Straight up, I really don't recall this happening that often before like 5-10 years ago. Is it the absolute glut of games or something else entirely? It's so weird these kids in their physical primes are just collapsing/heart issues.
