Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

In a lot of ways the recruitment is beyond Thelwell his role i think more the overall facilitator, there is a whole Dept that will have a list of potential targets for each position. Then you are into resources and availability.

What has let us down over numerous windows, has been cash flow - we've identified some great players and just haven't been able to afford the deals.

In reality the more we do January the more urgency we will have to raise before July. Though we need players and badly.

Thelwell i don't think will be looked at this close to a window.
I guess if KT has been doing his job, then the whole point of having the DoF setup would be that a change of head coach shouldn't affect things much, if at all.

You do tho get a sense that there may not have been complete unity on recruitment strategy up to now, so perhaps we even see some fringe players being brought in from the cold by the next man.

Have wanted this for a very long time and now with the lack of real quality, i dont really care about most of them leaving. With this and a new boss ect can change the mentality here. Think this window will give us a small picture of the plans they have at the club
My biggest concern is how we manage such a huge overhaul inside the financial regulations. Stadium name and selling Branthwaite appear the obvious short-term answers but there's a lot of money that needs to be spent and very little to be recouped.

I think you always get those rumors when things aren't going well mate.

Personally i think our recruitment strategy ha been dictated by affordability and ability to a deal in those limits as opposed to players we would actually want.

Think that translates to a lot of what we see in the team.

We need to make far more of the free transfer market, there are some decent players about at the end of the current season. Also the loan market. Just because we might have money doesn't mean we should blow it all at once. We need to be smart this time round.

Three main ways i think mate.

One selling Branthwaite forgives a lot of PSR sins and creates scope.

Two the Business revenues is going to jump from 190 mill to about 240/250 mill - from the 1st of July presuming we aren't relegated.

Three our amortisation and wage bill comes right down, with only 12 and likely 11 players still in contract - which essentially creates scope.

Not sayin it will be drunken sailor spending, but we can create scope and act if we have a proper plan.

To balance that ehere will also be some unpopular choices of keeping players on for 1 year, also loans and frees etc.

I agree with you. If we're trying to replace 10 players or more it's still gonna cost. Free transfers typically have high signing on fees and command good wages. But yes, we need to work much smarter than we've done previously.

They do but its very rarely as much as an actual transfer fee and wages though, it comes down to who the actual player is at the end of the day. There are some decent frees to be had next summer both home and abroad.

Juventus were the kings of this about 4-5 years ago.
One of the best windows is actually what 777 did when they first went into Genoa. They signed some more experienced players, combination of frees and loans, then the little bit of money they had was used to bring 4/5 first team ready younger players with promise (Dragusin was one) and signed a buch of prospects for their under 21 team. You can get the list up on toffeeweb (I think) its a clever windows business if you go through it and well thought out/planned.
