Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

The issue we have is that we can pay someone like Brownhill £40k a week to come in and fill a squad position, or we can try and renew the contract of somebody on £80k a week and tell them to take a 50% wage cut. They'll either tell us where to get off and leave, or stay and be demotivated. It's a really difficult situation for the DOF and manager in the summer.

I suppose partly I'm just laughing at the 'distance from certainty' that gossip writers use - There is nothing stopping them saying 'Man City 'could consider' signing Tony Hibbert on a free'. It's absolutely true yet not newsworthy in the slightest.

Seems to be a lot of players we were linked to are now going elsewhere..

Gotta agree with @davek on this one. I think now relegation is all but staved off, they may have taken the foot off the transfer accelerator!

Save the money for the summers rebuild job!
Or. The links are just that. Not targets, not players we had approached or spoken about.

Alcaraz being leaked by Flamengo shows that the disconnect between the rumours and what is happening is huge.

Sunday the 2nd of Feb 2025. What a great day for the parish it was yesterday.

I’ve rounded up what I could find below but I’d be reasonably surprised if we don’t sign someone who hasn’t been mentioned. Tbh I think a lot of these are very loosely linking players.

Everton have shown an interest in Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka over the last month with his future at Stamford Bridge under scrutiny.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed Chelsea have informed clubs they will not be looking to offload the 21-year-old permanently. The Italian journalist has said Chelsea will only accept a straight loan for Chukwuemeka ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Borussia Dortmund are also showing an interest in the £30m-rated midfielder, but any loan deal for the youngster will not include an option to buy.

David Moyes has identified Stade Rennais left-back Adrien Truffert as a defensive transfer target at Everton, according to Alan Nixon. The newspaper journalist reported via his Patreon (2 February) that Moyes is keen to bring Truffert to Goodison Park in an attempt to alleviate concerns at left-back with Vitalii Mykolenko his main option.

Truffert is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League with the Frenchman valued at around £20million although Moyes wants to prioritise a loan signing. Everton could find the money if needed.

Everton are set to sign Carlos Alcaraz after he travelled to Merseyside for a medical, according to the Mail on Sunday. The newspaper reported on 2 February (page 84) that the Toffees will complete the loan signing of the 22-year-old from Flamengo ahead of the 3 February deadline.

Sporting CP forward Marcus Edwards is set to snub Everton in the winter transfer window, according to TBR Football. The news outlet reports [1 February] that the Toffees held talks about a potential deal for the 26-year-old but will fail in their pursuit with Edward’s likely to join Burnley.

According to Sky Sports, Evan Ferguson is now set to join West Ham with a medical already booked in for the 20-year-old. Ferguson will be joining the Hammers on a straight loan until the end of the season.

It will be a real blow for the Toffees with Everton looking to sign a new striker following their recent injury woes.

However, according to journalist David Anderson, Everton have not been beaten to Ferguson though as ‘they weren’t in for him’.

Everton will be prepared to sell Beto if they sign a centre-forward before the winter transfer window closes, according to Tuttosport. The news outlet reported on Saturday (1 February) that the Toffees will be open to selling the Guinean striker if they get a new number nine before the 3 February deadline

Everton have made an approach for Sean Longstaff and have already learned the midfielder’s stance on leaving Newcastle United, according to TBR Football. The online outlet revealed (1 February) that the 27-year-old, who was once labelled as “magnificent” by Stuart Pearce on talkSPORT(2 November, 14:33 pm), is set to stay on Tyneside rather than joining the Toffees.

According to The Boot Room, Everton are now battling to sign Tom Watson from Sunderland after Brighton & Hove Albion saw a reported £2m offer turned down by the Black Cats.

Whether the Toffees offer more than that £2m fee remains to be seen, but Watson is certainly a wanted man amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, on top of the aforementioned clubs.

It has also been reported that Everton sent ‘two proposals’ for Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl but they were rebuffed by the German outfit.

Everton have been eyeing Ben Chilwell this month as Moyes look to provide Vitaliy Mykolenko at left-back.

It was understood that Chilwell was open to making a move to Goodison Park, but now Crystal Palace have stolen a march on his signature. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Palace have agreed a loan deal to sign the £45m man, with the final decision now up to the player.

After an impressive season so far, Everton fans want to see Idrissa Gana Gueye handed a new contract on Merseyside. According to one club insider, Everton have now opened talks with Gueye over extending his future at Goodison Park. @The Bobble

I guess the decision will be do you want Doucoure and Gueye as squad players next season or the likes of Brownhll and Long staff.

If it was me I'd renew Gueye , let Doucoure go and pay decent money bring in a dynamic box to box midfielder to compliment Tim.and Garner.

Would 4 central.midfieldeex be enough ?
It's a bit of a false economy to include Longstaff and Brownhill in the same sentence, let alone the same grouping.

Longstaff would be an excellent signing. Brownhill would not.
