Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I think we really need to be going after these types of players like Rigg and Dibling.

While not 'homegrown' we need to have an English backbone to have some identity as all the great teams have had.

Plus they dont need to adapt to a new environment and it should be a natural step up for them.

IMO English backbone & 'not a new environment' is a flawed logic - example - Living in Liverpool is totally alien from living in London. trust me (bro lol).

Getting a Norwegian/Dane/Scot/Irish guy in achieves exactly the same/easier transition as getting a Londoner in, but at pennies on the pound.

Motherwell have a 18 year old Midfielder that my dad goes on about... Lennon Miller. Started every game, ended up captain vs Dundee Utd - He'd probably cost about £3m. They also have OAP Ewan WIlson who is a 19 year old defender who's also started every game. I don't know if they'd be good enough, but you can say the same about Champo players... we don't know.

IMO moving from Motherwell to Liverpool is an easier transition than London to Liverpool...

Gravesen, Barkley stick out in my mind for Everton. Every January there are also plenty more, with other clubs picking up players on cheap deals rather than risking greater competition in the summer.
Both players were wanted by sides such as Madrid & Chelsea at way under market value.

This would be for a 30 year old back up Centre back

We can't afford either player though Zat, you need to be a bit more realistic about potential players mate. Rigg is highly sought after by serious big boys who IF they move we simply can't compete with them, let alone the money aspect side of things. Dibling is a Saints lad through and through and I know for a fact he is happy to plod along with them for the time being. You are looking at another Le Tissier situation there, boy is a real homebird as was shown when he previously went to Chelsea and got homesick. Even if he did the fee on a player like that would be massive, you are asking the club to spend (possibly) the best part of £50m+ on two teenagers, for a club like us that is NOT good recruitment imo.

One of us is under/over-estimating the impact of the stadium sponsorships and new ownership.

If Southampton are sat in the relegation zone would Dibling still be open to potential championship football? I was told the same about Archie Gray staying and he moved to Spurs (in theory we'd be a better option for gametime). Likewise would Sunderland be open to a deal where Rigg plays out the season with them?

For me, I'd be looking to build a young team over a 3 year period -- I dont see the value of having a new stadium and not having a plan for growth and it seems like Roma had a similar plan for quality players joining in their early 20s while were a way behind that.

I think its all about mentality and if players want to stay in their hometowns then they dont have the mentality to be 'the best they can be'. Also if Dibling for example couldnt take to London itself then its a bit different to Liverpool and the surrounding area.

The Scandinavian & Scottish players are typically low cost but also a high risk as they may not be good enough. We can see with Dibling that he's a premier league player and clearly Rigg looks to be on that trajectory as well.

I'd rather we took that approach even if it cost a higher amount for several positions.

Once we have the 'future' mapped out with high potential players in and around the 11 we can then take a few punts on these other types.

You are the one that is telling everybody to look at the mess Roma are in, all it takes is one poor managerial appointment, you have no idea that any new manager would want two teenagers in the team anyway.

Is talent in scotland is all about getting them at the right price so even if didnt work out we still have a sell on value. Even if the lad was a deal up to 10 mill we could still bring in more midfielders instead of a rigg who would cost more and would give us less money to fill other positions
