In my mind, a perfect 'modern' 4-3-3 (for most teams) comprises of a sitter, and two box-to-box players. However, one of the box-to-box players is more about hassling/getting about the pitch, and the other one is about linking play, carrying the ball through the lines and having that creative side.

A midfield trio of Grealish, Allan and Doucoure would probably work really, really well. But, we obviously aren't getting him. I do think we need that player that can break the lines, but also has the athleticism to play a central role at pace in the Premier League - that'd be the main concern with Isco, wouldn't it.
I don't disagree with the first bit but this is pretty much exactly what Villa tried to do last year and although Grealish does do some of those things he ultimately was still a midfielder who was defending his area like an attacker and it was a problem. It can be not a problem if your team reaches a certain level sort of like City have, but we definitely have not.

Isco looks extremely finished but I also think he's a guy who would struggle to reach the minimum threshold of ability when the team is out of possession to play that role.

We also need to factor in that really the ideal thing would be to find a real #6 first and use Allan and Doucoure as the box to box players. Initially Doucoure could take on the role of being more advanced and after we figure out he can't do enough we can move to find a real player there too.

All this assuming we'd want to play 4-3-3.

Out of curiosity where do people think Grealish would play?

On the left, right?

So I take it that means we sold Rico?
He will play at middle.
The middle of the country at Villa.
A Good player, would cost too much and the likes of united would be in for him even if Villa wanted to sell him.
can't see us splashing that type of cash anytime soon with the new ground on the horizon.

Grealish is a very good player, but for me I don't want that type of personality at our club. I want our players to embody what the club stands for. Maybe I'm being judgy as I don't know the guy, but IMO he doesn't have the best public image and therefore not a good role model. I think our club stands for more.

I'd have Jack the ripper in the starting 11 if it made the team better!

To be fair our assistant manager has been to prison...

Pretty sure we were supposed to get him really cheap before he went to Russia? Then nothing happened.

Sucks. He is a true DM. His workrate is ridiculous and he is not bad on the ball.

We would be better having a player like him and moving Allan to CM. We would be much sounder defensively and it would free Allan to help us on possession
