Everton January transfer window 2021

You'd be mad not to take £12mil for Davies.

However, we would have to get at minimum two other CMs in to cover him, as we are already short.

Khedria on loan makes a lot of sense as a short-term option if Brands doesn't like getting his main targets in during the winter.

Would really like to get in Ali as well - anyone that watched both games last night must be crazy if they think he wouldn't be an upgrade on what we have.

We can compete if we came out of the Jan window with:

Doucoure, Allan, Gomes, Siggurdsson, Ali, Khedira, Delph and Gbamin
Totally disagree. Adding Alli and Khedira would only exacerbate the no pace, no carry ability of the current lot.

Need to replace at the very least

Gome (s) / (z)
Delph
Bernard
Davies

Just not good enough, tonight a perfect example
I think Davies will stay Homegrown and low wages. Gomes I think they may keep, Bernard cash in and get off wage bill, Delph Will go if a offer comes in. Back up striker needed badly

Need a plan b to Dom even if it’s a coming off the bench for 10/15 minutes. We have literally have had it if Dom gets injured, tosun upfront on his own?..... why have we no striker options it’s shocking recruitment!!!! We have nothing attacking to bring on and change games, Carlo doesn’t trust Gordon and ain’t selecting Simms in squads as he’d rather select 2 GKs.

Saying we need 1 or 2 windows to catch up will not work as the teams mentioned will also strengthen , have more money through Champions league money and are more attractive to players, were going to just hope that new players brought in just click like the 84 team or a Leicester City

Not always true. City have regressed from a few seasons ago, Arsenal are far worse, United aren’t as good as they were under Ferguson, Chelsea have regressed from where Conte had them. Liverpool will regress at some point. Sure they will all try and improve but they don’t always have top managers.

We have a top manager, we need to improve year on year so that in a season or twos time we are in a position of strength just as they are starting to maybe struggle.

The problem is some on here want us to go to the moon immediately with a midfield of Sigurdsson and Davies. It won’t happen. It took Ferguson time to sort out United, Kendall needed time, even Guardiola needed a season and 100s of millions, Klopp needed time.

Carlo doesn’t seem to be getting much slack whatsoever. He wins three in a row, has us in fourth, but because we narrowly lost a cup tie to a very good United team when we had lots of injuries some people are straight back to knocking him.

The collective patience of some Evertonians seems to have completely gone. In Martinez’s first season he started of with three draws to poor opposition and everyone stayed so positive. He went out of the league cup to Swansea and still everyone was supportive. He got smashed in the derby, we threw away the home derby, and we bottled the palace game for fourth. Yet still, Everton fans were right behind the team.

Ancelotti has picked up a far worse hand than Martinez had, one that wasn’t gifted with Barkley and Stones in it on top of a top 7 squad. He’s doing his best to turn it round yet some of the fan base on here seems to have lost patience completely. Pages on pages dissecting a draw to Burnely like it’s the worst thing in the world, how dare he lose away to a mid table Newcastle team with 5 of his best players missing, how dare we let Fulham have any moments in their game against us on their own patch. It’s honestly getting a bit embarrassing, it’s very entitled, win every game Carlo or we kick off is essentially the remit now. Btw it better be through absolutely dominating the opponent home and away orher wise we’ll moan as well. No excuses, we don’t care if your players are injured or tired, or if you get any bad luck, just win every game otherwise you’re getting tactical lessons from some posters on here.

I'm not knocking the manager he inherited a lot of below average players but regarding the other teams, City will come back with Pep signing a new 2 year deal and money no object, the other lot can spend 50 million on players that will be bit parts if the others are fit, and can sell at top money when sold, Chelsea have just had one window but their youth academy seems to be churning a lot of talent out , United looked head and shoulders above us yesterday and many have written them off, I think we are going to need a lot of good fortune to catch those even with Carlo here but fingers crossed he can turn it around.

Minimum we need a forward and maybe another midfielder depending on Gbamin. Loans would do we have to have options the bench is weak and injuries will affect us Carlo had been working miracles if we are honest.

Liverpool: Thiago, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita, Oxlade Chamberlain, Jones, Milner.

Chelsea: Kante, Kovacic, Mount, Jorginho, Gilmour, Barkley, Loftus Cheek

City: De Bruyne, Bernardo, Rodri, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Foden

Spurs: Ndombele, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Winks, Dele Alli

United: Pogba Fernandes Matic Van Der Beek Mctominay Fred

They’re the 5 teams we have to compete against if we want to be winning trophies and getting top 4 football and look at those midfield as! Every single one of them has at least 6 players all with pace, power, physicality and for most of them durability. Chelsea have two midfielders out on loan who would have walked into our team last night! Yet still some people expect that we are going to go up against these teams on a consistent basis and win with a midfield of Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson, with old man Coleman at right back and Michael Keane turning like a cruise boat at the back. It’s utterly laughable.

As @Zatara says we need a few more windows until we have a squad where we can match up to those lists above, and not just in midfield in attack and defence too! Until that point we’re just hoping that Ancelotti can outperform all his rivals with a far weaker hand, sometimes he will but sometimes he won’t yet a lot of people seem to be getting very annoyed very quickly every time he fails to win. What else can he do with the hand he’s got? People going on expecting us to be positive and progressive, to ‘have a go’ against United. I’m sure Carlo would love to like he did with his Milan team hen he battered them in the champions league at Old Trafford. When he has a squad with those sort of options in it then you can play in different ways.

At the moment a high defence is completely off the cards because we have utter tosh centrebacks who can barely run or pass a ball. They can’t defend much outside the 6 yard box so flying full backs (if we had any fit) are off the list as well. We have no midfielders fit with any pace apart from Doucoure so a high pressi g game is also impossible. We do have two quick forwards though so sitting deep and playing on the counter with set pieces might be the only route to win. Then one of your quick forwards gets injured so that’s out the window too.

Seriously what are people expecting? Expectations go massively up because Carlo gets a few wins we really shouldn’t be getting through using those exact same tactics and then when one team finally calls us on them people start getting annoyed with him. He’s genuinely the only reason this team isn’t somewhere between 9th and 12th which is where players like Davies Coleman Kenny Sigurdsson Bernard Tosun Keane Mina belong.

The squad is a complete and utter shambles. 5 years of turgid recruitment buying slow weak cowardly players and yet people expect that you can just add Doucoure to that mix and it will suddenly become a trophy winning team that makes top 4. No chance.

Never going to happen or at least not until we have substantially strengthened in that area .

Gbamin is an unknown quantity at this stage.
Allan is a great player but may well be a player that will suffer from injuries during a season.
Sigurdsson is doing much better recently but is not a defensive midfielder.
Delph is always injured.
Gomes has somehow managed to probably be the only player that continues to get worse and worse since the arrival of CA.

If Doucoure were to get injured and Davies sold we couldn't even put out a midfield.

On the other zatara post, fully agree. The likes of gylfi and Davies simply don’t cut it.

In summers 2021 and 2022 we will have 16 players out of contract. Of those, James we may extend to 2023 with the years option.

The names/discussion all in the contract expiry thread...

6 Expiring 2021
Bolasie
Besic
Pennington
Connolly
Bowler
Olsen

10 Expiring 2022
James
Sigurdsson
Bernard
Tosun
Delph
Coleman
Kenny
Lossl
Baningime
Gibson

As things stand, summer 2022 we would look like having these 20 players;

8 Expiring 2023
James
Digne
Mina
Davies
Branthwaite
Nkounkou
Allan
Doucoure

7 Expiring 2024
Virginia
Richarlison
Pickford
Iwobi
Kean
Gbamin
Gomes

5 Expiring 2025
Calvert-Lewin
Holgate
Gordon
Keane
Godfrey

GK: Pickford/ Virginia
RB:
CB: Holgate / Godfrey / Mina / Keane / Branthwaite
LB: Digne / Nkounkou
DM: Gbamin
CM: Davies / Allan / Doucoure / Gomes
RF: James / Iwobi
CF: DCL / Kean
LF: Richarlison / Gordon

Its clear that we need to strengthen RB + DM + CM above anywhere else.

As @Saint Domingo wrote, the midfield (bar Gbamin) only has 2 good players for 3 positions...zero depth beyond that.

2 midfielders and a top right back needed.

Looking at that list, we need :

Personally, I think we need more attacking threat. If DCL or Richarlison get injured we’re sunk. We were scraping the bottom of the barrel yesterday, but a lot of other clubs will also be struggling.
Allan and Gbamin will be back in the next part of the season. Holgate or I Godfrey could support in that role I think.
But we don’t have enough firepower.
We definitely need a RB though.
