This is exactly why we should sign someone in January (specifically if we are fighting for champions league). It’s a big boost for the squad and we can certainly use an injection after throwing away Leicester then bending over to Newcastle.

I agree generally with what you say but:

1) an overpriced £60m Zaha is not the answer;

2) Given the massive covid-related drop in income, some balancing of the books HAS to take place.

We need to clear out LOTS of dead wood, and in fairness Brands is making progress on this: Bolasie gone, Lossl gone, Tosun possibly going, Bernard possibly going, Delph linked with a possible move, Kenny also linked... the necessary space on the payroll is being created.

We also need to bring in keenly-priced, pacy reinforcements... very, very hard to do at the best of times.

Why? Either we make Europe which balances the books or we are going to lose Richarlison and others which balances the books. It's doing one of the main facets of his job which he has said and shown repeatedly he doesn't want to do in January.
