Everton January transfer window 2021

I'd never seen that before, but good god that is hideous that. It looks like just being a football and watching a match got him in the door!

I think we all assume that a business with the revenues Premier League clubs have are ran by competent people, but through my experience in seeing people in senior positions at fairly big companies, that isn't the case - the vast majority of them wing it and hope for the best.

That Niasse story doesn't surprise me in the slightest as a result. We blatantly did the exact same with Iwobi, so it doesn't even matter what transfer window it is - there's a lot of meaningless preparation behind the scenes and then often blind panic right at the end.

Anyone we sign today has probably been on our radar for four or five days max.

I mean thats one interpretation. However in honesty performances don't get you into the top 4/6, results do.

You could also argue;

West Ham: Poor game, 2 poor teams. 0-0 would have been fair
Sheffield United: Win against a team who have gone to United and won
Rotherham: Poor performance, but comfortable win in the end
Wolves: Good win
Leicester: Even game. They had a spell of posession and we missed our first choice midfield, but in honesty we had the better chances to win it.
Newcastle: Rubbish. No excuses.

I look at Spurs for example, I have watched parts of their last 2 games. I can't have it that they are going to finish above us. I'm sorry I just can't. They were well beaten by Brighton and well beaten by Liverpool as well.

Leeds is an important game for me, we need a good showing there, and to avoid defeat at the very least.
Yep different interpretations, but I feel mine are more accurate, especially the Leicester and West Ham games.

so if you want to go on results, forget the FA cup against bottom 3 championship sides.

In the league we played 4
W1, D1, L2 with only 1 real decent performance in any of those 4 games.

I'll be honest mate, I'm not sure Iwobi was the same, or at least the same process.

Iwobi has very good "numbers" and a lot of the recruitment guys were always very big on him. To some extent he's probably a player whereby you see the limitations of data. I can't imagine he was on a list though.

Niasse looks the opposite way. No prep but a "gut" feeling of a manager. I suppose you see the relative judgements of messers Ancelotti/Martinez when one goes out on a limb for Rodriguez, and the other for Niasse.

Its strange though. You look at Liverpool across the road, who are often held up for their diligence, signing a lad who's nearly 26 and has never played above the championship. I mean nobody could tell me he was top of any list before a week ago. People just panic in football, and make poor calls.
