Three key players missing for dead rubber – youth players expected to play

A week on from a dejecting defeat at Wembley to Manchester United, it'll be hard for player and fans to pick themselves up for AFC Bournemouth's visit on Saturday.

Hopefully the inclusion of young players like Matthew Pennington and Kieran Dowell will give Goodison Park the lift it needs. Both are expected to be involved on Saturday, particularly Pennington given the injuries and suspension the defence is enduring.

Phil Jagielka has possibly sacrificed the end of the season to play through his hamstring injury at Wembley last week and isn't expected to be seen in an Everton shirt for the final few games. Whether that affects his Euro 2016 chances remains to be seen. Ramiro Funes Mori is still suspended after his clumsy red card at Liverpool and Seamus Coleman, like Jagielka, is suffering from a hamstring injury and has not been given a return date.

Also out is Gareth Barry with a groin injury and other than that and Tyias Browning's knee injury, Everton are at full strength but Dowell's U21 form and scoring wonder goals for fun has forced Roberto Martinez to include him in his squad. Tony Hibbert is also available for what should be his last few games on the Everton bench.

For the visitors, the Cherries are without Adam Smith and Tokelo Rantie with them suffering from hernia and muscular injuries, respectively. Neither Smith and Rantie have been given return dates and neither has Harry Arter who is out of Saturday's clash with a calf injury.

Tyrone Mings is also missing with the knee injury he suffered on his debut at the start of the season. Max Gradel is a doubt for Eddie Howe's side and faces a late fitness test for his hip and thigh injuries.

Howard to start for Everton in last two home games via Royal Blue Mersey

Fans to get a chance to bid him farewell

Manager Roberto Martinez hasn't made too many popular Everton squad selection decisions lately. However, the choice to start goalie Tim Howard in the last two home games, against Bournemouth today and Norwich on the last day of the season will be received warmly by the fans.

Tim Howard will be leaving the club at the end of the season after 10 years with the Toffees, and this will give him a chance to say a proper goodbye after being unceremoniously yanked from the starting XI earlier this year.

From the Everton site

The 37-year-old USA international goalkeeper has made 412 appearances to date for the Blues, keeping 132 clean sheets – a figure only bettered in the Club's history by legendary custodians Neville Southall and Gordon West. He even registered on the scoresheet with a memorable goal from inside his own penalty area against Bolton Wanderers in January 2012.

In today's matchday programme, there is a note from Martinez too, acknowledging the veteran –

"In our last two home games of the season we will be able to honour and acknowledge the outstanding contribution and unforgettable role that Tim Howard has made to our football club in the last 10 seasons.

"Tim will be joining Colorado Rapids at the end of the season but his legacy will live on for many years in the work that he's done not just on the pitch but in helping young players to understand just what it means and what it takes to be an Everton player. We wish him well and he'll be a true blue ambassador wherever he is."

We wish Howard well on his footballing journey, and thank him for the ten years he spent at Goodison Park.
