Everton’s manager Roberto Martínez digs in over fan protests via The Guardian

• Spaniard was subject to abuse when walking with wife
• I respect every fan’s opinion, Martínez adds

Roberto Martínez has said being the target of angry protests at Everton will not distract him from the task of correcting this season’s failings at Goodison Park.

The manager was subjected to abuse as he walked to his car with his wife, Beth, following the 2-1 win over Bournemouth last Saturday, their first win in eight games. Martínez has faced calls for his removal at several matches recently but insisted vitriol will not prompt him to walk away. “When you are Everton manager, you are in a position where you have to take responsibility and I do that for our performances and results,” he said in response to last week’s protests.

Martinez – Leicester an inspiration, but Everton won’t copy them via Royal Blue Mersey

Roberto has no plans to deviate from his current tactics

Roberto Martinez insists he won't try to imitate the tactics of Leicester City despite their shock Premier League title triumph.

The Foxes won their first top flight title on Monday when Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea, with Claudio Ranieri's side preparing to collect the trophy after Saturday's against Everton.

The heart of Leicester's success this year has been their ability to get the ball forward quickly, utilising the pace of Jamie Vardy and skill of Riyad Mahrez.

They regularly concede more possession to their opponents and are near the bottom of the league for passing accuracy, but that hasn't stopped them moving seven points clear at the top of the table with two games left.

In contrast Everton regularly enjoy more of the ball than their rivals, but their failure to do anything with it is the chief reason why they are languishing in the bottom half of the table.

When asked whether he would consider altering his tactics to try and mimic Leicester's success, Martinez was fairly predictable in his answer.

"I don’t think clubs work at what others are doing, you have your own structure, plan and process.

"Everyone will have an opinion, but I just see it as an inspirational example, to be celebrated. You haven’t seen a story like Leicester in the Premier League."

Martinez also cast doubt on whether Leicester's success truly signalled a momentum shift in the Premier League away from the likes of Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea, whose success was fueled largely by financial dominance.

"It’s an interesting debate. It’s an incredible achievement. You can see it as the exception, or as something that changes the landscape. It's too early to say.

"It’s a great inspiration for any team sport, to dream high. But you need to be realistic. It won’t be repeated easily."

Blues visit the newly-crowned Premier League champions

Champions are an inspiration says Martinez

Its that time again. Get your Roberto Martinez press conference bingo cards out at the ready! Phenomenal…Unique…Moment…House!

The Spaniard gave us the low-down on the team news for Saturday's visit to the King Power,

"We had no knocks or any problems against Bournemouth. The three players we are keeping a close eye on are Seamus Coleman, Gareth Barry and Phil Jagielka."

"It will be difficult to see Gerard Deulofeu in any of the three games we have left," continued the Spaniard. "We are very confident that Jagielka will be available before the end of the season and Barry and Coleman have an outside chance of being involved at the weekend."

Moving onto our hosts, the newly crowned Premier League champions Leicester City, Martinez had plenty to say in his usual positive persona;

"You need to see it as the exception that proves the norm or something that is going to change the landscape of the competitive nature of the league. It's too early to see how that's going to develop."

"What Leicester have achieved is a great inspiration for any team sport and for any group in order to dream high and have huge expectations but I think we need to be realistic that this is not the norm.

"It's something we haven't seen in the modern game and I don't think that's going to be repeated easily."

"For me, they have been deserved winners of the Premier League this season in a very competitive league and clearly they will be playing with that swagger,"

Martinez added.

"We will congratulate them and, from that point on, we will focus on trying to be a team that can perform against them," he told his pre-match press conference.

"They have been a real inspiration in terms of a winning team, and not just in football, throughout sport. To have that intensity and that drive and, against all odds, it has been the real fairy tale of football and sport in general in the modern game.

"From our point of view, we are facing a team who have been playing all season with incredible intensity and tempo. We know we will be facing a team that are probably in the best moment of confidence you could find them.

"Claudio Ranieri deserves incredible plaudits and credit. Everything has been well measured; he has shown real good experience in protecting the squad. I don't think it has been an accident. In a competition of 10 months they are where they are on merit."

Toffees without several key players for title parade

The story of Leicester City this season has given every football fan hope to dream beyond their wildest. The story of Everton this season has taken away nearly all hope from every Evertonian. Saturday evening's fixture is a dead rubber because both team's season has finished, for very different reasons.

Toffees skipper Phil Jagielka looks to have sacrificed the rest of the season by playing through the pain at Wembley against Manchester United a few weeks ago and it appears that his hamstring injury will keep him out the final three games. Gerard Deulofeu's season also looks to be over after suffering a MCL knee ligament injury reportedly following a clash with Oumar Niasse in training – just to add to the Senegalese's first impressions on Blues fans. Both Seamus Coleman and Gareth Barry are being described as very doubtful through hamstring and groin injuries, respectively. Ramiro Funes Mori will serve the final match of his three-game suspension after his red card versus Liverpool and Matthew Pennington is expected to keep his place at centre-half after an impressive Premier League debut against AFC Bournemouth.

Other than a few sore heads after a deserved drink or two, newly crowned Premier League champions Leicester have no injuries for Saturday's clash. However Danny Drinkwater is suspended after his red card at Old Trafford last week and Robert Huth has been retrospectively reprimanded following his involvement in the incident with Marouane Fellaini and both will miss the game but star striker Jamie Vardy will return after serving his suspension for the red card he received against West Ham United.
