Idrissa Gueye is set to join Everton – and Aston Villa’s owner isn’t happy via Royal Blue Mersey

Dr Tony Xia lashes out as Everton close in on midfielder

Unless you support a team like Real Madrid or Barcelona it is a fact of life that key players will leave your club once in a while.

Evertonians are all too aware of this footballing reality – they are already steeling themselves for the possible exit of John Stones for example.

For new Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia though, it seems to be a rather difficult concept to take.

When faced with the news that Idrissa Gueye is set to leave Villa for Everton, a fuming Dr Tony took to Twitter:

Once someone has clause in contract, looks like being giving a chance to betray. Said staying one day and escaped the other day. D now G!

— Dr. Tony Xia (@Dr_TonyXia) July 29, 2016

Oh dear.

The ‘D’ he is referring to could be Fabian Delph, who initially rejected a move to Man City last summer before changing his mind a few days later.

The ‘G’ is, of course, Gueye, who had a relegation release clause in his contract.

In yet another example of the chronic mis-management Villa has suffered from in recent years, the £7.1m release fee in Gueye’s contract is reportedly £1.9m less than what they paid for him just 12 months ago.

Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that he is powerless to stop the 26-year-old from leaving the club after Everton triggered the release fee.

Di Matteo said:

“There are other clubs interested. But the only official bid so far has been Everton.

“The fact that he is leaving is down to the clause he had in his contract.

“Otherwise there would have been no chance. We’re not a club who is looking to sell.

“We don’t have to, we don’t need to.”

As for Dr Tony, well I suggest he be more careful before casting moral judgements in the future.

£40 million is City’s final offer for defender via Royal Blue Mersey

Take it or leave it, they say to Everton

Reports in the media are saying that Manchester City’s offer of £40 million for John Stones will be their last and they will not be budging from their position. Everton have already rejected an offer of that amount, or a combination cash plus Wilfried Bony deal, and this transfer seems to be at a standstill now, much like every other transaction that the Toffees have been involved in this offseason.

Ronald Koeman has informed the player and his representation that he wants a quick resolution to this situation to avoid the protracted transfer saga with Chelsea that went on into the new season, ultimately proving disruptive to both the player and the club’s preparations.

Everton have proven to be notoriously tough negotiators in the transfer window as the Stamford Bridge club found out last season. City for their part have struggled to come to terms favorable to their cause in their past dealings with Bill Kenwright, first being forced to buy defender Joleon Lescott for not a pound less than £24m, a princely sum for a player who ended up making 107 appearances over five years. Then a couple of summers ago Everton slapped a £50m price tag on Ross Barkley and refused to lessen that valuation.

The Mancunians look ready to move on from their £42m purchase of defender Eliaquim Mangala, and are hesitant to make Stones the most expensive defender in English history. In fact, if they meet Everton’s asking price, that will make the centerback the most expensive English player in the game, overtaking Raheem Sterling who was also purchased by City last season, for £49m.

Stones is currently in Germany with the Everton squad and even though Pep Guardiola might be saying that this is ‘take it or leave it’, he will have to come back with a better deal to convince the Blues. Stones is rumoured to have put in a transfer request, but Everton are under no pressure to sell with the player under contract for another three years.

With the transfer window open for another month, the feeling is this one is far from over.

Dynamo Dresden 2-1 Everton – Toffees slip to disappointing defeat via Royal Blue Mersey

Spectacular Deulofeu goal not enough in Germany

Everton slipped to their first defeat of pre-season with German side Dynamo Dresden coming away with a 2-1 victory.

Everton fell behind early on through Niklas Hauptmann but levelled before the break thanks to a spectacular free-kick by Gerard Deulofeu.

The Toffees had several chances to move into the lead but were punished for their profligacy when Pascal Testroet blasted home the winner from long-range.

Ronald Koeman fielded a strong team for Everton’s third pre-season game of the summer, with starts for John Stones, Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman and Kevin Mirallas.

The was also another start in central midfield for 18-year-old Tom Davies, an academy graduate who may well be playing himself into the first team this season.

Dresden took the lead on 16 minutes when a pass from central midfield was allowed to travel right through the heart of the Everton defence towards Erich Berko and his low cross was poked home by Hauptmann.

Deulofeu was Everton’s shining light once more, hitting the post early on before drawing a fine save from Patrick Wiegers.

Everton did eventually equalise before half-time in spectacular fashion. Deulofeu firing in a free-kick that fizzed over the wall before dipping in off the crossbar.

It was the Spaniard’s third goal in as many pre-season games since being pushed forward into a central striking role by Ronald Koeman.

Deulofeu had a chance to put Everton front soon after the break but he fired wide from a tight angle inside the area.

Midway through the second half Dresden re-took the lead out of nothing, Testroet’s drilling home a long-range effort went in off the post beyond a stranded Maarten Stekelenberg.

Everton struggled to create many openings after that, the lively Deulofeu failing to be Wiegers when played in by Mirallas.

Everton don’t have long to dwell on this defeat, they face Spanish side Real Betis tomorrow lunchtime.

A visibly frustrated Koeman will no doubt be looking for improvement after a result that exposed Everton’s old failings.
