Koeman: “players need to be more aggressive” via GrandOldTeam

koemanefc-150x150.jpg

Ronald Koeman reckons his players are sometimes too nice and need to be more aggressive.

Idrissa Gueye conceded a penalty but still produced an impressive performance on his debut and Koeman has called on his players to follow his example.

Koeman: “He is a different player and he can bring that to the team and that’s the reason why we signed Idrissa for Everton because he is a different midfield player than most of them.

“But also the rest of players need to be more aggressive. It is sometimes too nice.

“Football is not what you do on the ball. Football is most of the time, how compact you play, how you run, how you react and sometimes it is too sloppy.

“He can bring that but we have to show the players what we want and that is still difficult because if you play three seasons on your guitar and then one day you need to play piano it is difficult because maybe it is not your quality but it is also a mental question.”

Lukaku set for new deal as Everton fend off Chelsea interest via Royal Blue Mersey

Toffees to open talks with Lukaku’s agent this week

Everton are set to begin talks over a new contract for Romelu Lukaku in a bid to stave off interest from Chelsea.

Paul Joyce of the Daily Express, a reliable Everton source, reports that Everton will meet with Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola this week.

Raiola is already in the UK to finalise Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United but will also find time to discuss terms over a new deal for Lukaku.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Belgian striker all summer but Everton are determined to hang onto their man.

Lukaku still has three years left on his current deal, putting Everton in a strong bargaining position. But the Toffees are keen to send out a message to their rivals by tying down the 23-year-old to a new improved, long-term contract.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary Everton are not interested in Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, according to Joyce.

The Ivory Coast forward had been linked with a move to Goodison, especially after he was pictured in Liverpool earlier this week.

However, it seems Everton’s focus it keeping Lukaku on Merseyside rather than shopping for potential replacements.

Bruno Martins Indi could be going to Everton

The Portuguese media had previously linked the player with his former manager from Feyenoord, Ronald Koeman.

About a month ago, Portuguese paper O Jogo reported that Everton had made an offer of €10M for the Portugal-born player and the club could let him go as they are expecting him to be surplus to requirements. The player has two more years left on his current contract.

Martins Indi made 34 appearances for the club last season, including seven games in the Champions League and Europa Leagues. He had played in 37 games the previous season.

The 24-year-old defender is left-footed, and at 6’1” plays a physical game that would fit right in with the Blues. He has 31 international caps with the Netherlands in the last four years, scoring two goals. He also appeared in over 27 youth internationals with the Holland team.
