Leighton Baines in line for new two-year Everton contract via The Guardian

• Everton eager to keep 32-year-old full-back at club
• Baines recently regained place from Bryan Oviedo
Leighton Baines is in line for a new two-year contract at Everton. The 32-year-old has been in discussions since the summer and it is understood agreement is close on a contract that will tie the full-back to the club until 2019.

Baines is in the final year of his current contract – signed after Everton had resisted approaches from Manchester United – and Ronald Koeman is keen to keep such an experienced player at Goodison Park.

• Everton also tie down defender Mason Holgate until 2021
• Barry and Baines sign deals until 2018 and 2019 respectively

Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry and Mason Holgate have agreed new contracts with Everton.

Baines, the 32-year-old left-back, had been in discussions over a new contract at Goodison Park since the summer and has agreed a contract until June 2019. Barry, the former England midfielder, has signed an extension until the summer of 2018. Only Ryan Giggs has made more Premier League appearances than the 35-year-old, who joined Everton from Manchester City in 2014.
