Championship
Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match in 0-1 away defeat to Sheffield Wednesday

OS Match Report
"Joe Williams nearly had Wanderers equaliser with seven minutes to play, as the ball ricocheted to the Everton loanee on the 18-yard-box. He set himself and fired goalward but put too much on it, as the effort was sent wide of Wednesday’s goal."

Twitter stuff
Wanderers come forward on the attack after Adam Reach gave the ball away; @JoeWilliams0812 then tees Marc Wilson up for an eventual shot from 20 yards that was dragged comfortably wide. (18)
.@JoeWilliams0812 delivers a superb cross across the six-yard box that is dangerous but Josh Magennis can't quite get a toe on the ball. (68)
Another chance for Wanderers! The ball runs free to @JoeWilliams0812 who evades Barry Bannan before curling a shot over the bar from the edge of the box. (83)

"How come the one name first on the team sheet seems to be williams, for me he has created nothing"
"There's no creativity in our midfield, least of all Williams."
Strange fan comments considering he's a defensive midfielder.

We generally end up loaning to clubs that are middle to bottom of the Championship (otherwise it is unlikely that our youngsters would end up being a regular part of the team and gaining the desired experience). And when teams are in those kind of places and having a bad run, as Bolton are, then fans understandably get frustrated with all the players in what they perceive as problem areas.

To be fair to them, although I haven't seen Bolton play this season, it does appear that Williams is being given more of a licence to be a box-to-box midfielder, rather than a defensive sitting one, just from reading the comments during the matches and from the match reports.

Championship
Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in 2-3 home defeat to Bristol City

OS Match Report

No real comments about his performance in particular. Ex-EFC Academy Liam Walsh started for City and seemed to be having an influence before going off injured in the second half.

Wigan Athletic - Callum Connolly started on the bench and came on in the 79th minute

...funny enough, I did a bit of internet digging a few days ago to see how Liam Walsh was getting on. Ipswich conceding 3 at home doesn’t fair well.

So how has he been getting on? Good to see him starting games at that level so hopefully for him he can maintain his place and kick on.

Championship
Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match and was booked in 1-1 home draw with Wigan Athletic

OS Match Report
"Two minutes prior to the hour mark and Windass gave a lifeline to the Whites, as he turned away from Joe Williams and fired goalbound for eight yards but could only find the side netting."

Twitter stuff
YELLOW CARD: @JoeWilliams0812 picks up an early booking for a rash challenge near to the halfway line. (2)
Some unbelievable football in the middle of the pitch from @craignoone and then Sammy Ameobi leads to @JoeWilliams0812 coming away with the ball. He goes down under a challenge but doesn't get a free-kick! (21)
Big chance @LaticsOfficial! The ball drops to Josh Windass inside the box, and after turning away from @JoeWilliams0812, he fired a shot into the side-netting. (59)

Fan comments

"had the best of things early doors despite Joe Williams' typically scouse combativeness nearly getting him sent off."
"Thought Williams had a good game."
"Williams had his worst game since Sheff U, I've been impressed with him lately but today his passing and decision making was dreadful."
"Nobody can tell me we don't have anybody better than Williams on the bench or in the u23 squad."

Callum Connolly was an unused sub for Wigan in this match.

Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in 0-2 away defeat to Nottingham Forest

OS Match Report
"Grabban was denied his hat-trick by a fantastic block by Matt Pennington"

Twitter stuff
51' Town survive another Forest attack. Grabban takes advantage of a mix-up between Chambers and Pennington before cutting the ball back for Lolley whose shot is blocked by Skuse [2-0]
86' Another really good chance for Forest as Lolley finds Grabban in the box & the striker looks set to score but for a superb block by Pennington. [2-0]

No particular comments about his performance.

Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match in 2-3 away defeat to Norwich City

"Wanderers were pressing for an equaliser and Williams flashed wide with a left footed effort with just over ten minutes to go."

Twitter stuff
.@JoeWilliams0812 does well to win the ball high up the pitch and he plays the ball to @craignoone who sees a shot from the edge of the box held onto by Tim Krul. (35)
.@JoeWilliams0812 beats Jamal Lewis superbly before seeing a low shot flash past Sammy Ameobi and Will Buckley in the box. (37)

YELLOW CARD: Mario Vrancic is booked for a foul on @JoeWilliams0812. (86)

Fan comments
"At 2-2 they were down and flat and I wanted us to go for the winner.Williams (who had been excellent) received the ball and immediately launched it towards the corner flag. Perhaps giving us some respite but in effect surrendering possession"
"Williams had a very good game, shame the lad can't shoot."
"True. A little more composure and better decision making and he'd be in their first tean"

No time to do others this morning!

It was his birthday yesterday. Turned 22, and has > 50 games in the Championship under his belt now. Should have a decent career in the game, but you do wonder if it'll ever be with us. That seems to be the theme of the crop of lads out on loan this year - they're in the shop window rather than developing with our first team in mind.

...he is the one out of the loanees who I wouldn’t be surprised to see around the top flight, he just seems to have lots of attitude.
