Just to carry on from this morning...

Championship
Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in a 0-2 away defeat to Stoke City

OS Match Report
"the Stoke striker then almost capitalised on a misunderstanding between Matt Pennington and the Town ‘keeper but couldn’t force the ball home"
"Ince threatened an immediate third but Pennington made the block"

Twitter stuff
5' Big chance for Stoke as Afobe gets the better of Pennington but Gerken races out & gets something on the ball. It falls loose but Knudsen clears the danger. [0-0]
17' Afobe almost gets in behind the Town defence after a long ball from deep by Shawcross, but Pennington does well to flick it back to Gerken. Not many chances for either side thus far. [0-0]
51' Really nice move from Town after the corner is cleared as Pennington finds Chalobah who plays a lovely first-time pass to Downes, but his shot is held low by Butland. [1-0]

No particular fan comments about him.

Wigan Athletic - Callum Connolly started on the bench and came on in the 30th minute of a 0-1 home defeat to Derby County

OS Match Report

Twitter stuff
30' The double change means Josh Windass is now up top, Darron Gibson joins Morsy and Evans in midfield, and Callum Connolly slots into the defence between Kipre and James. (0-1)

No particular comments about him either.

...many thanks, Matey.

Championship
Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams started and was substituted in the 80th minute of a 0-1 home defeat to Leeds United

OS Match Report

Fan comment
"the final ball from Williams, Buckley and Noone was shocking."

Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in 1-0 home win over Wigan Athletic

OS Match Report

No particular reports or comments about him.

Wigan Athletic - Callum Connolly played the full match in same game and was booked.

OS Match Report
"Connolly headed over a McManaman cross late on"

Twitter stuff
42' @reecejames69's corner is clawed away by Gerken under his cross bar, it drops in the area and everyone is scrambling to get to it, Connolly's effort spins wide for Windass, but he can't keep it in play. (0-0)
50' Yellow. Callum Connolly booked, he slipped in Ipswich's half and pulled his man back. (0-0)
84' Latics forcing the issue, but @cm_macca's clipped cross is headed over in the middle by Callum Connolly! (1-0)

No particular fan comments about him - apparently played at left back instead of midfield.

I think Connolly's biggest problem is going to be that he doesn't excel in any particular position so unless Silva likes a utility player he will probably have to move on.

I would like to see Joe Williams recalled in the window as he has had 18 months at this level. I would like to see him either come into our squad and maybe get some matches towards back end of season earlier if injuries dictate. Or if he could be loaned to a Premier League club as I think he would get into some of the teams towards the bottom end.

Pennington for me needs to impress as I still think he could be our 4th choice CB next season instead of Holgate.

With all respect mate, if he’s not pulling up trees in the championship he’s hardly going to be getting game time in the premier league.

Sometimes the players around make a difference if he is playing clever passes and nobody is on his wavelength they will go to waste. That's why I would like to see him at this level. Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy are classic examples of how loans don't always work for every player and I am not saying he is that level just making an observation.

...I think you’re probably right but Williams has ‘attitude’ and I remember reading comments that Silva actually liked what he saw of him. Without being cruel, Williams isn’t ‘very nice’ on a football pitch and lads like that always have a chance. He’s generally played for struggling Championship teams but he was given a new contract here in the summer.

Of all the academy loanees, he’s the one that Silva might take a look at in the summer. He’s a different type of player to Osman, but they both suffered serious injuries at a key stage coming through so he might be one not to write off just yet, despite his age.

I’ve liked him for many years even if he’s not as high profile as others. He’s very competitive.

I'm with you on this one. He was playing reserve team football as a 16yo him Kenny and Ledson. Then unfortunately he got injuries and it has meant missed opportunities. He was out injured when Davies first got his chance and last year there were a couple of times when Baningime played and I think if he hadn't been loaned out he would have been the one to play instead.

...he was 16 when I saw him play against the Brazilian international Anderson, who was coming back from injury for Manchester United. Williams didn’t do anything fancy but he stood out for me with his competitive nature against a seasoned professional. He ran out of steam and was substituted with 20mins to go, but I’ve liked him since that game.

I always think if they are reserves at 16 they are a cut above. I think he is the type who can adapt his game to whoever he is alongside. Time will tell I suppose. Injuries are an absolute nightmare look at Tyias Browning too good for u23 but not good enough for 1st team but he lost so much development time I wonder if he might have saved us money. I don't think there is a lot ro choose between Browning, Pennington and Holgate but Holgate is the youngest and has most Premier League appearances and that is becauae he's been fairly lucky with injuries!
