Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

That’s why we pulled out, we weren’t willing to buy him
That’s my original point kid. We were worried (given our extensive history of buying overpriced/overpaid PL players) that we would end up purchasing Winks. Thankfully we didn’t.

Possibly they’re now looking more at scouting, data, stats and value.

We can only hope.

Think the club seem to want Dennis as he can play wide as well as through the middle. It’s just mad that a player who went to Watford for £4m last summer we are going to buy for £20m, plus add ons. Really we should be looking for the next Dennis, we’ve learned nothing, keep paying a premium for players.

This is exactly right, the same in part applied to Broja and Gallagher links as well. These aren't clear value signings on the market. Interesting sure, but process to outcome is skewed. Asking yourself why we aren't scouting as effectively as those players teams did a year ago is a far more astute question. Everton should be investing more diversely for smaller sums.

Why? We need a backup striker. If Pukki could be got on the cheap he fills that role well. Last season he had 11 in 37 for a poor Norwich side. in 19/20 when they were last in the top flight he had 11 in 36 for a poor Norwich side.

As a backup to DCL we could do much worse (and have in Rondon....).

you don't want him to be the marquee signing, but as a fallback if DCL gets hurt.....? He fits the bill.
I get the reasoning but its not the sexy name that most people want in here.

Pukki gets 11 goals in a season for Norwich but he isn't good enough. DCL gets 16 and he's compared to Harry Kane.

I don't think a short term deal would be too bad. But at 32 I wouldn't pay over £5m for him

My guess is Winks fell apart as much because Leeds or someone else offered Levy actual money for him rather than a loan. Still, works for me.

Think Lampard really wants Gallagher, but not sure Chelsea will sell. Need two new players in our midfield. (also, is Gbamin functional these days? If we don't sell him I suppose he could be part of the mix)

Wouldn't mind us looking at that Madueke over at PSV. We need a left footed, right side player and he might fit the bill nicely.

A backup to DCL is a must (surely there is a way to sever ties with Rondon)

Then another CB is needed. If Niakhate at Mainz is really available for less than 10M we should be looking. Sell Mina and either Keane or Holgate, whichever brings in the most.
I don't really get the Gallagher links to be honest, even as a loan. If he's available for sale surely better teams than us would be after him considering that if we were after him he'd have to not be *that* expensive. As a loan wouldn't it make more sense from Chelsea's point of view to send him back to Palace to continue developing rather than an unknown quantity in us especially considering we played some absolute tragic football last year which wouldn't help a future Chelsea midfielder at all, they had the same issue sending Gilmour to Norwich.

I'm not sure Gallagher fits our style (if we have one) anyway. I'd prefer Gilmour on loan. We also have to sell some more dross first.

Yup - agree with all of that.

if we get 30 mil for kean and 50 mil for richy thats 80 mil to spend

if we are very smart
we can make that 80 mil stretch with signing eriksen on a free and bringing in two highly rated players on loan

thats 3 players with an outlay of no more than 10 mil inc loan fees

then you have 70 mil to spend on a combo of players such as gallagher, KLP, Brennan Johnson, Dennis, Cornet, Colwill, Zinchenko, Winks etc

I don’t think it’s as simple as that, we have to be in profit at the end of the season and I think we will continue to run transfers by the premier league, so we don’t end up with a points deduction.

Also, not convinced we can be smart, if past performance is anything to go by, and the players we are being linked to. Other than Erickson, they are all going to be between £20m and £30m and high risk. We should be looking at good performing players in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany who we can get in on lower transfer fees with decent resale value.

We'd end up with Davy Klaassen again.
