I don't get the argument that Gilmour didn't settle at Norwich, but that it's ok because they're Norwich and they're rubbish. Yet somehow, at Everton, he will somehow thrive alongside footballing luminaries like Doucoure, Davies and Gomes.

He seems a decent player, if a little overhyped.

If you are weighing up the evidence on the positive are 2 or 3 good performances for Chelsea when surrounded by top class teammates and one decent performance for Scotland in the Euro’s. On the other side of the equation is a whole season at Norwich where he performed poorly looking completely our of his depth and was universally unpopular with their fan base. He also has performed poorly for Scotland in recent games and was called out by Charlie Nicholas where he was compared to Barry Bannan (a very technically talented player held back by a lack of physicality). Frank probably could have got a loan deal done for him By now if he believed he was the answer

And those plans - whether we stayed up or not - would take a long while to come into place because that's just the mess we are in.

He's been in the job since Feb. In that time he's managed to make more changes - and they were needed so this isn't to credit him as such as they were simple - to the top of the club (below board level) than Brands managed in three years.

We do have obvious holes in the squad and they're working on fixing them - but, get this, we have very little money to play with. So the entire recruitment department, which is still being finalised anyway, and the DoF etc are negotiating from a place of weakness. Every club knows we're up the duff financially and all the deals so far that we've been trying to do and failed seem to have fallen down on how we can afford to structure the deals.

So what do we do to change that? We have to keep negotiating or move on to other targets and by and large that seems to be what's happening. But just because we move on to other targets doesn't make the clubs that those players play for any easier to negotiate with? We cannot afford big initial fees. Wolves are supposedly wanting £20m up front for MGW for example. We simply don't have it so we're having to negotiate and that's going to take time.

In the meantime the focus also has to be on getting others off the books but again, where is our bargaining power with that?

I'm not anti-Thelwell, he's only been here a short time as you point out but this summer seems a lot like other summers here. Every man and his dog knew that Richarlison was being sold this summer, even the goons on this forum have been talking about it for months and we know nothing, and yet, with 3 weeks until the season starts and 3 weeks since he was sold we still don't have a replacement. I get that we're skint, but if the job was easy they wouldn't get a seven figure salary. The minimum that should have been planned was a replacement for Richarlison, it didn't have to be a superstar, we have to cut our cloth, but someone.

Watford wanted lots for Dennis and we think there's better value elsewhere.
KLP - Hull said no to our offer because it was only a tiny downpayment
Broja - Again, we can't afford £30m or to match West Ham, by the looks.

So seems our 4th target was Cornet and we're in talks. it's simply where we are.

Like it's not like the plan isn't there. It's just hard to get it done...

Far too many people overhyped about our new saviour just because he happens to be the current bloke in the DOF hotseat. Happy to give him the full window to see what recruitment looks ike, but so far, there's not a lot to be convinced about. Don't get why quite so many people are so quick to worship at the alter of the former Preston/Wolves/NewYork man when there's little evidence of all this supposed "finally being on the right track with the right people" talk.

It’s always possible that we’re trying to get a bigger priority in, just that nobody knows about it and those others are ‘bonus under the right circumstances’.
