In 2004 it was similar. We had a weak squad and had just lost Rooney without being able to spend much. We lost 4-1 to arsenal at goodison first game of the season and everyone thought we were doomed. But somehow Moyes managed to get us 4th. I'm certainly not expecting that with Lampard as he's not even fit to dust Moyes jacket. But he needs to be creative in the transfer window and try to find a few bargain buys to make this club competitive.
We had weak squad, but those players were able to work their socks off and had the right mentality.

Do you really comparing Gravesen and Carsley to Davies and Gomes? Not to mention likes of Cahill or Weir.
 
Im inclined to agree because I’m seeing little evidence we have a scouting network that extends beyond England.
Our scouting network consists of someone who lives in Burnley, someone who lives in Watford and someone who lives in norwich. None of them can drive and have phobias of public transport, so they walk to their closest grounds.
