Yeah, I think 40 million is a very unrealistic asking price but even if a much better deal could be structured it’s all about the age. Every deal we do really needs to have some potential for profit if we’re going to get out of the mess. They signed him for pennies two summers ago. That’s the point where we need to be getting these guys.

He was bought from South America, no way he'd get a work permit here mate at the point Betis bought him

The question is not so much "can he?" but more "why would he?"

As has been said before, the right footed left back is a thing because left footed players are less common.

Also, we have like 6 players who can play right back if we need, why would we train our starting left back to play there?
No, the question is "why would Lampard?"

And the answer is that he could utilise the skills of all his defence to make do and mend with the material he was left with...and adding to that a LB/LWB and maybe another CB gives him that opportunity.

Look, we are all over the place on the right side of defence still. Coleman isn;t looking a great bet to make a lot of appearances and he;s the only one who can play all defensive formations.

We need defenders in and we would hope FL knows that they have to be utilised and / or adapted to help us get through this season....because shipping 66 goals like last season again will bury us.

Not 29 until April, actually been improving as he's getting older, you'd expect him at 32 to still be close to his current level. 30m deal spread over 4/5 years, 10m on add-ons that would only kick in next season and the one after.

Would only be 6m euros on this years P&S
I agree. I want us to sign him. We just have to be careful when spaffing large amounts of cash given where we are.

Plus, I'm led to believe Betis are properly skint and want to strengthen other areas, so there may be a deal to be done.

You know that dead annoying thing Godfrey does when he plays left back when he receives the ball and just turns and passes it back, because he's right footed and can't go on the outside.

Yeah imagine that but Ukrainian if Myko gets moved to right back.

If we play with a 5 at the back we have enough depth in that position for this year.

The number 6 is the biggest thing this year and I think a good one will make the rest of the defence look almost competent.
