If we end up with gueye and onana I'd be very happy. Happier than I thought possible with midfield signings.

A forward still has to happen. Athletic said broja is still a target so I think a loan move is still on the cards. Chelsea haven't much depth at centre forward though, loaning him would leave havertz and Werner, who they seem to be actively trying to move on.

I have absolutely no interest in transfers that aren't forwards right now. You need to score goals to stay up.

You also need to not have a Tunguska sized hole in the middle of the pitch allowing the oppoaition to create chance after chance as they will eventually score.

A forward and CM are equal priority. Lets hope we are close to both. That Bobbles mate is hinting at Broja on loan

I don't see why Chelsea would try to wage dump on us, then let Barcelona wage dump on them.

We currently have a full 25 man squad, so offloading players, frees up space to add others, so whilst the cash savings are minimal, every little helps at this point.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I override it and absolutely have an interest in never seeing Tom Davies or Andre Gomes ever again.

That business is a lot harder to do in the Prem. Lille can offer European football (CL last year) and a starting place. We offer competition for a place, or getting loaned back out to an unknown destination. This is not a hard call for the player or his agent at age 19.

I wholeheartedly agree that we need to be taking some risks on inexpensive young players, and that not doing that for years is what put us in our present fix. This prospective move is a lot more like throwing money at Kean than it is like throwing money at Iwobi or Gbamin, though.

Yeah, you're right there, the blueprint really is Kean because that went just about as badly as it could and we've still come out on top, because we invested in a known talent at the right age. So yeah, in that context deals like Onana are what we should be doing. We've just had so much bad luck and bad decisions with our signings I'm now nervous about us spending this much on one player, if indeed we do.

Currently we have 25 but Nkounkou, Gbamin won't be registered and likely gone. Townsend won't be registered for the first half of the season either so that gives us one free space if the two mids go through

I have not seen a Gazumping like this since we had a fully fuelled jet on the tarmac for Sissoko and Levy burst onboard with a balaclava and a V shaped hand under his jumper

It makes refreshing change us doing the gazumping than the ones always getting gazumped

I think that we should be signing more of the less heralded younger players, too - players like Branthwaite. It's a numbers game. You have to churn through a lot of them to find a diamond, and a lot of times someone who isn't a fit at one place shines elsewhere. Paying more (and having more to offer if the player breaks through) permits fishing in a more talented pond where the odds of success are higher, and the prospective payoff is bigger if it works. The downside is that you take a bigger loss if it doesn't work and you have to sell on and recoup.

Onana Doucoure could be a first choice midfield pairing in the 523 formation with both being able to get up and down. Gueye as experienced cover and to start whilst Onana gets bedded in.

Might work as I can’t see either being particularly good enough on the ball to play in a three but if the full backs and wide players are creating then maybe having two powerful runners in midfield might work.

We’ve certainly lacked pace and power in there for a long time. Whenever Doucoure is missing you can drive a coach through our midfield.
