Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Think the board is under more pressure, if they don't support him and bring in player's good enough to compete to stay in the league as a minimum, he will just walk. Bring in Alex Ferguson , Pep Guardiola and Wenger to manage this squad and we still finish bottom 5.

Possibly. But we have signed 9 players since Lampard has come in (well, 8 and El Ghazi). We should be getting close to a team he’s happy to work with and has helped build.

Maupay injured for the first time in a zillion years and Lee Hendrie on sky sporting a blue rinse, it the end of days lads, the apocalypse is looming!

From what I’ve seen if McNeil so far in an Everton shirt, I think he’s looked absolutely out of his depth. No idea what we signed him for uoto now. Seems awful.
I fear the same, but it's not really sensible to write him off after four games.

The difficult thing is that £20m is a fair chunk of this season's transfer budget. That's not McNeil's fault and it's not fair to say this, but there is a level of expectation from the fanbase for a return on this investment. We need to take a balanced view on what a "good" return on that investment will look like.

IMHO we need to see him start influencing games. A handful of assists over the next ten games would be a huge step in the right direction, but if he's as anonymous in the next four matches as he has been so far... yikes.

Maupay £12m rising to £15m is ok as he has record of scoring in PL. How much we actually pay for McNeil is the problem.
Hmmm.

Maupay scores 7 - 10 per season when used as the starting CF over 30+ matches.

He's not getting that many starts when DCL is fit, and he won't get the volume of chances with us (at least not THIS season) as he did with Brighton. He's not getting more than five or six goals for us this season.

Ideally we should have used the money of McNeil and Maupay to buy a good international player. A lot of average PL teams sign some of them.
