If all these rumors about us throwing around various £25 million bids over the last days / weeks / are remotely true, then it feels to me like one of two possibilities:
1. We really thought we might sell Gordon, and we were just lining up potential replacements ahead of time.
2. We somehow have that kind of money to spend without selling Gordon, but we haven't done it yet simply because our first choice target still hasn't become available. If that's the case, my guess is it has to be Broja. Maybe we have Brereton Diaz in our back pocket as the absolute last-chance back-up plan, but we think we can pull that off at the last possible minute if Chelsea doesn't budge, since he's just in Blackburn. And they can't really rinse us on the price like other teams might try to do on deadline day, because if they don't sell him today, they probably lose him for free next summer anyway.
Of course, given that the report of the supposed bid for Pedro yesterday came from Romano, the whole thing is probably bull.
