Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Last season I watched an awful team full of overpaid knobheads that didn’t want to work hard and couldn’t care less whether we won or lost.

This season I see a young hungry squad, led by a young hungry manager that will put a shift in and want to put in performances that not only make fans proud but also give the players themselves some professional pride in their own performances.

Already this season I see Coady and Tarkowski playing for spots in their international teams so they can go to a World Cup, Holgate playing like the player he was meant to become, Patterson playing to cement himself as a starter at in the Premier League at just 20, Onana trying to become a leader of men at just 20 giving his absolute everything for a club he joined 2 weeks ago, Iwobi fulfilling the potential he had years ago with new found belief and clearly loving every second, McNeil working himself into the ground so that others around him can have better games, Gordon trying to prove to many, including myself, that we were right to refuse massive money because he’ll get better.

Need I go on? Win, lose or draw these players are clearly playing for this team and this manager. Something that cannot be said for much of the squad last year.

As for being “13%” into the season I couldn’t give a rat’s arse. That’s nothing. If you think we’re in trouble now then by the same note you must think that Leicester are too, Fulham and Leeds are gonna be challenging for Europe and Brighton are gonna be in the Champions League.
Well said sir!

It’s the manner of the performances
that should be alarming.

We’re horrible.

Nothing from this window addresses that.

The game is now about who presses (pushes the opponent back) first.

We’re going down.
Exactly. We never play on the front foot. What happens when all the resilience is gone after we’ve lost 4 of 7 and we are bottom of the league.

Don’t get the optimism at all, we are in a dark place and I don’t believe we are good enough for the fight. Obviously I want to proved wrong, I hope the players shove these words down my throat.

We’ve tried to solve a creative problem by becoming more solid. It’s like putting a tattoo on a ballerina.

Work rate, you can get that from league 2 players.

Burnley would have been fine if this were true and although I like Tarkowski, this proves he can’t save us.

We have to make bigger problems for the opposition than they make for us, is this the case?

I say no.

Eh? Work rate is literally the reason Leeds, Brentford and Brighton were able to all come up from the Championship and establish themselves in this league. I’m not being funny but each of those teams have god awful squads on paper compared to a lot of teams that they do better than, Brighton who’ve been doing it the longest now actually have a gradually better squad year after year in fairness.

All that being said though this league shows that if you outwork, outrun and never give up in a game then you can beat basically anyone. City and Liverpool are the only two teams that can comfortably blow any team away on a given day, we’ve created a solid defensive shape so far which will only improve, if we can become better in transition and without the ball, which with Gana and Maupay or Calvert Lewin playing we most certainly will, then we’ll be fine.

We need to become a hard working team that can grind results out, which I feel like is the aim given how we’ve recruited. I think this style of play is also the best suited to what the fans want to see, in terms of being realistic.

Just thinkin' reading these hysterical responses. about my eldest blue brother who made me an Evertonian from birth. He held the same beliefs when he knew he was on his way out - late diagnosis. We haven't got into September yet and you're giving up. Pitiful cowards

Well it's less about pressing than it is about goals.

Unfortunately we're not very good at either.

But, we are stronger - on paper - in defence and midfield, which is a boost.

But we’re actually weaker in attack
And more predictable which is astonishing considering how terrible we were to begin with and how much money we have spent

Better in defense? We’ll need to be…

because we’ll be be doing even more defending if that’s possible given that we can’t keep the ball

Was a good window we have got cover in the defence and in midfield now. We can all agree that upfront is still a problem but hopefully we dcl back fit and maupay they can get the goals. Also with the players bought in hopefully it can release others to grab a few goals onana and iwobi. Even the new lad garner is meant to be good at set pieces. Is fair to not be happy but to say that the team is going down when you havent even seen how frank will set the team up,

You're talking about top half expectations right there. The bottom half every season is full of teams that do not do what you suggest. Only three of them go down. We were not up to that standard last season, and we were not going to be this season after selling our best player just to stay within the rules without freeing up funds for his replacement, no matter how good the window.

As Tony Pulis and others repeatedly proved over the years, it's the second concession that kills you most days out. Score one reliably, keep some clean sheets, and if you find yourself at a -15 goal differential at season's end you stay up. If you're in the -15 or -20 range and you go down, it's either because you were putrid in defense or scored in the twenties. I don't think we're that bad at either end of the pitch, though a large enough stack of injuries could change that.

Yes we have a new midfield now and with players coming back fit maupay, dcl. Will give us a player uptop who can create space hold the ball better than what we have. Can agree weaker in attack but you havent seen the way frank wants to set up the team. Maybe the new cm can grab some goals, gordon to score more, maupay.
