Before Benitez this squad was good enough to be midtable/pushing for European places
Since Carlo we’ve lost three regular first team players - Digne, James, Sigurdsson
Digne has been replaced by Myko who looks good
James/Sigurdsson we’re huge losses last year as we lacked creativity - hopefully Dele fills in for one, then we need another
By all accounts Tarkowski is coming and will add steel to the defence
Biggest other issue is Doucoure and Allan not being able to play every week and needing to be options rather than first team players
RB hopefully Patterson comes good, if we’ve got cash to spend id buy an immediately first team player though
So for me, we need a quality creative midfielder, a holding midfielder (like Delph but not injured all the time), a good right back if Patterson hasn’t stepped up, young up and comers to fight for places.
Buying relegation fighters will just see us fighting relegation and before Benitez nobody thought this squad should be fighting relegation!
