The wages issue is a bit of a red herring in many respects.

It isn't the size of the wage that is the problem , it is the return the team gets from the player.

Iwobi was drawing a huge salary with very little return up to Christmas. After the arrival of FL we saw that his contribution to the team meant that nobody was concerned about the size of his wage.
Richarlison would be one of our bigger earners but again his contribution means that wages paid are not an issue.

The biggest wage thief of all...Delph, for a short period contributed so hugely to our season that we are not as annoyed simply by the mention of his name as we were.

We are simply not going to be able to sign good players , experienced premiership players for small salaries... that day has long gone.

Can we sign players that stay fit and who force their way into the team every week ?... that is the challenge.

Does a club like Everton need to sign only players that will have a resale value in the future?
Allan for instance has been heavily involved in the team over the last two seasons. If he stays next season and every week is a starter or on the bench for nearly every game then has his signing been a failure or success over the three years even though he really won't have a resale value when he leaves?

Tarkowski is alright on a free.

Old school CB.
Shouldn't be looking at players like that when we have a track record of signing late 20s players that we can't get rid of and have proven to be bad signings for the money involved.

All well and good saying this one or that one is alright , that way of thinking is why we are where we are. How many alight players have turned up on high contracts and then nose dived form wise?

In terms of defenders, our best one , injury prone but was a young defender that Barca valued. Our worst, 25 million from Burnley. That should tell you something.

An addict says maybe this one will be fine...

WTAF :(

Everton have offered Jonjoe Kenny a new three-year contract. The homegrown right back, 25, is out of contract and also has interest from Germany and Premier League clubs.
