Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Fair enough ....we have done early business off of Richy's sale / Gueye in now but I still cant believe that we went 5 matches without a striking option. Don't know how long Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out or whether he will find his Carlo form and health and we have no clue how Maupay will bed in. A striker needed to be brought in earlier or at least not loaning out our young strikers till now. Up the Toffees and happy to be proven wrong by the club prior to the World Cup ....
It’s the hardest position to sign, and we couldn’t afford to wade in for a big name. We will never have a clue about how anyone will bed in, either, to be fair.

Sandro looked like he should be a useful option and good for a handful of goals a year. Moise Kean was one of the most exciting transfers in recent times.

None of this is to say we don’t need a striker, but I think the shouts of incompetence etc are wide of the mark when we’ve revamped the rest of the team completely since Jan.

We’re pinning a lot on Dom, Maupay and Gordon. Hopefully they can get us through to Jan in reasonable nick and maybe the rebuild can carry on then.

The core of our team looks loads better with Coady, Tarkowski, and Gana/Onana (and maybe Garner) in front of them.

I've bored everyone with my view about our attack but I'll say it again - I think any three of any of McNeil, Gordon, Townsend, Gray, Rondon, Maupay and we struggle to be competitive enough to stay in this league. We'll be asking players to hit numbers for goals/assists that they've never hit before.

If we don't bring in anyone else to fill the void that Lampard has spoke about then IMO, we'll be in a position were the difference between a relegation scrap to the wire, or mid table comfort comes down to Calvert-Lewin's fitness IMO, and even then - we've lost his biggest providers. We don't create a lot - 19th or 20th for chances last season, and 18th so far this season.

I tend to agree - objectively, if I look at the squad vs what it was last season, we've improved in midfield and defence significantly, but the loss of Richarlison is not compensated for by the signings of Maupay and McNeil - McNeil may end up being creative and helping us in that regard, but Maupay isn't going to make a big difference in terms of goals. We will be relying on keeping DCL fit and hoping that Gordon ups his goal output from last season significantly. In all honesty we could have done with another wide forward and another striker. Whether the budget was there for that, I have no idea, but as the minutes are ticking down it's seeming less likely that we'll bring any attacking reinforcements in now - are there enough goals in this squad to keep us out of trouble? I have my doubts

Depressing but very true

It's not exactly surprising that people are concerned though is it mate? I mean we finished 16th last year and after 5 games this season we're 17th, having failed to win, score more than one goal in a game, or keep a clean sheet. People have been 'pining' for attacking options to come in all summer, because it's fairly obvious we need them. It's also fairly obvious that we're still trying to get them, because the manager evidently agrees. If we get the right attacker in then this has the makings of a pretty good window, if we don't then it looks like (another) failure.

it can’t be a failure we’ve knew we’ve needed attackers
i’m hoping we’re springing a few surprises

Concerning if we don't get extra forward in. Right to the wire now. These are crucial hours for our season so really hope they can pull something off. The other good work threatens to be undone if not.

Let's be honest about this:

Rondon + Maupay + Calvert-Lewin (sometimes)...is that something you thought we'd go into the remainder of this season with and be happy about?

IMO that is nothing short of a disaster. To have a weaker attacking threat than the relegation threatened team of last season is beyond 'kin stupid.

Everyone talking up this Thelwell character: WTF is he playing at allowing this nightmare to unfold?

I hope to goodness this lot have a rabbit to pull out by 11pm or we'll be as good as cemented to the bottom five this season
