I suspect you maybe have to pay to activate but the money maybe sits there in case he rejects/another club pays and he chooses them.

I’d imagine they’d have to do more than just tell the club they’re going to pay the clause.

Why though? As with any deal, you tell them you will pay it and then agree with the player surely before then paying the money once all agree.

The clause just means that his contract says that if someone says they will pay that amount, they have to let him speak to them. Doesn't change the actual process.

Kean will either go for money or not at all, Brands won’t loan him out again as he’s no mug despite some suggestions to the contrary on here.

Don’t doubt at all that James has his agent working to get him a move.

If no one wants to buy then a loan with a good fee might be our only option. It's not ideal but if we get a large fee, Kean plays well, and the Covid impacted economy starts to recover, we may be able to sell for a decent price in a more competitive market next summer
