Correct. And if he does get extended then surely that would indicate Keane is being sold - they can't both be on bigger wages than Godfrey when he's going to be starting 30 games this season at CB.

I dont think Keane will be sold regardless. We may also want to play a back 3.

Everything will hopefully become clearer when we start moving on and bringing in players.

I didn't say we were signing all of them and apart from Coutinho, I also don't count 20-30 mil players or loan to buy options as Hollywood signings.

They all rely on players being sold. We're not going to be splashing 60 mil on one signing for example.

Ok. The other day you literally wrote we were signing all of those players. Now we are not. You make it up as you go along.

Already been spoken about this, last two years of contract, you wouldn’t extend for a further two with the money he would be on/looking for, otherwise we have a 31/32 year old on 120k per week.

Saleable asset, and one that could be replaced easier

No surprise here unfortunately, would prefer Keane to go but hey ho!

Why sell either? Or why not sell Holgate? And how easy will it be to shift Mina on 120k p/w?

According to Transfermarkt we have in recent days seen the departures of Walcott, Besic, Bolasie, Pennington and King. This has released some £300k to £350k per week in wages, and made me smile.

Sadly Transfermarkt also tells me that we have not yet sold Bernard, Delph, Tosun or Kenny. All of them have one year left on their contracts and we should be happy to take £5m for any of them, just to free up wages and cut our losses. I would love to see Gomes sold too, but hopefully someone will be stupid enough to give us £10m for him.

Well if hes our best CB why would people be against extending on the same money? And I dint see we have to give him a 6 year deal either taking him to 32. We could easily agree a 3 year deal with an extension.
1) His agent will ask for more money. We would have to negotiate very hard (or be in a far superior bargaining position) to get him to agree to a pay rise of 0%.

2) Extending him will necessitate Keane being sold. If we have already tested the market (and we'd be mad not to have done so) and discovered no interest in Keane, then we'd probably have to sell Mina instead. We're not going to keep both of them and sign a starting RB, and then just dump Godfrey on the bench.

1) We are in a deflationary market. I'm sure his agent will be aware if that too, and know his client will earn significantly less than the current deal if the lie if the land hasnt improved significantly over 2 years. I think getting him to sign up for a year or 2 more one existing terms will be quietly quite an attractive offer.

2) Yes fair point re Keane. That's why I asked why would we sell either though. Why such a necessity. They were our best partnership last season, and defensively we were pretty good.
