Did he miss games from injury? Or because of the fall out with ancelotti, him and Allan by all accounts took ancelotti’s side, which didn’t go down well with the owner.

I think there has been a bit of a deterioration from him over the last 12-18 months, but for me it would still be a yes at that figure. I would say outside of VVD, Diaz and perhaps Maguire he would be the best CB in the league. At just turned 30, you know he is not going to be getting any better and will be declining but the question is how fast does that happen. I'd take that risk on him though at that price point.

The issue i have is that over the past 2 seasons his performances havent been as good as they were before...when youre stepping up to a more physical faster league and going downhill...its not ideal.

I think £35mil would be better spent on a younger model...theres a few top young centre backs around at the moment.

He also signed Tosun and Walcott for God knows how much. If you are involved in scouting, you will know all the young up and coming players of note. Dead easy to defend yourself by saying: 'yeah but I wanted to sign . . .'.

Don't forget he was given money to spend on young players: Lewis Gibson and Dennis Adeniran and Josh Bowler were signed for pushing £15 million. Never mind Vlasic, Lookman etc. So he had plenty of money for those purposes. He's just covering his backside after his total disaster here.

If he is blaming the manager for vetoing, I'm sure Brands could say the same. In fact, I'm sure when Brands goes we will hear similar stories of young talent we 'could have signed'.

Gibson £1mil rising to £6mil
Bowler and Adeniran were both rising to £2.5mil if i remember correctly.

Wheres £15mil from on those 3 lol

Allardyce wanted Walcott and Moshiri signed Tosun based on seeing him one game for Besiktas.

…I really don’t get why he was a good scout. I’ve seen this said a few times on here.

I saw him sitting in the stands watching Sandro, he then went and signed him. I imagine he didn’t just sign the rest of the dross we acquired without looking at them.

A DoF is responsible for football strategy throughout the club & acquiring the players who fit the strategy. Walsh was clearly not a DoF, but I’d also fear for us if we had him scouting players.

Gana Gueye, Pickford, Kante, Mahrez we’re all scouted by him weren’t they?

Walsh didn't scout Kante or Mahrez. He was head scout at Leicester at the time, other scouts did all the work and he just asked the club to sign them.

…I know he was at Leicester, but no idea if he was key in identifying those individuals. Leicester seem to have done ok with signings since he left. He was absolutely dreadful here & won’t have blindly acquired players.

Tbh just basing it on what he found at Leicester, feel like he may have bad decisions on signings as opposed to when he was a scout he just found and recommended players

He wanted Veretout instead of Kante originally... but he went on to stink the place out at Villa and get relegated. (Has since become a good player apparently)

Gbamin didn’t look very bad stop talking tripe!

set up Gordon’s goal in the friendly against Accrington, fantastic weighted through ball.

Lets give the guy a chance before you write him off and talk bubbles!

To be fair, he looked like a guy who won the right to play for Everton in a raffle on his debut.

My feeling of Walsh is he's like a few guys I've worked with. They will come up with the occasional really good idea, but will probably have half a dozen bad ones to go alongside it. The crucial thing is to have them in a role where they are (for want of a better word) filtered and someone above them is able to critical examine their ideas.

At Leicester he seems to have had that. At here, he was the man in charge, and it just went really wrong.

There's no doubt he could spot a good player, but you are judged on your ratio as much as anything else. It's a bit like Iwobi, he has had a handful of standout games, but most of the time he has been poor. The top players are good most weeks.

Mate, normally on the same page but no, don’t agree

Was against Palace mate, came on as a sub, remember it well - he was well off the pace, got caught in possession every time the ball went near him. Will try and find a match report.

EDIT: Best I can find quickly.

Gbamin was thrust into debut action for the Blues on the first day of the 2019-20 season when Andre Gomes suffered an injury shortly before half-time in a game at Crystal Palace. The then 23-year-old was preferred by Marco Silva to Tom Davies in central midfield alongside Morgan Schneiderlin – the young Englishman would come on later after Schneiderlin was sent off for a second bookable offence – and had some nice early touches but ultimately was given a few lessons in the speed and intensity of the Premier League when he got caught in possession a few times during the goalless draw.

That's being polite about it too.
