He also signed Tosun and Walcott for God knows how much. If you are involved in scouting, you will know all the young up and coming players of note. Dead easy to defend yourself by saying: 'yeah but I wanted to sign . . .'.

Don't forget he was given money to spend on young players: Lewis Gibson and Dennis Adeniran and Josh Bowler were signed for pushing £15 million. Never mind Vlasic, Lookman etc. So he had plenty of money for those purposes. He's just covering his backside after his total disaster here.

If he is blaming the manager for vetoing, I'm sure Brands could say the same. In fact, I'm sure when Brands goes we will hear similar stories of young talent we 'could have signed'.
Tosun was an Fat Sam signing as he was watching him at previous clubs, and attempted to buy him

Was against Palace mate, came on as a sub, remember it well - he was well off the pace, got caught in possession every time the ball went near him. Will try and find a match report.

EDIT: Best I can find quickly.

That's being polite about it too.
Tbf to him, he wasn't fit and got lobbed in to a game because Schneiderlin was a massive helmet. He played well against watford and his leg then packed up

Just being reading the transfer gossip around Everton, all about players coming in, nothing about players leaving. I hope we are not going to bring in 3/4 first teasers and keep the dross that are stealing a living from us. We need to have a realistic approach to this transfer window, we can get money for Kean (if Benitez can‘t keep him), we can get money for Mina and Bernard. There are a few who need to be gone who won’t command a big fee and some we will have to take a big hit on to offset the wages they think they can still earn.
Hopefully Benitez is now going through the first team squad and those on the periphery and explaining a few home truths.

Youve got a 25 year old right back who is physical, athletic and driven to win...all good things -- but his passing and crossing arent good enough for a top side from what ive seen...which is where i want us to be.

Newcastle, Palace and suchlike usually go for these players...he smells like a 1-2 season stopgap player rotating with Coleman.

We need a Coleman replacement, not someone to rotate with him.

We have 3 seasons till the stadium is built, Aarons is the profile of player we could slot in next to Godfrey as a foundation for the long term...

If its me, id go for Aarons and then Emerson...if we failed then id look at other players before punting £14mil on Dumfries.

The whole thing seems a stupid, pointless exercise to me and i dont see how a signing like this takes us towards top 4 or top 6.
Agreed. What is he 25 and not played in a top league? big alarm bell. He could turn out to be good, but it's definitely a punt.

He hadnt even had a training session with us before he got thrown into a game when werew ended up down to 10 men.

He looked very good in the next game against Watford or are we not counting that?

I just said his debut. Doesn't mean he is crap, but when people say he looked "bad" they have in mind that debut. I made no comment on any performance after that.

Obviously he wasn't fit and it wasn't a fair occasion to judge him and far too limited a sample size, but... yeah, he looked terrible that day, even if there were valid reasons for it.

In reality none of us have any idea if this fella is any good or not, 3 appearances (and not even 3 full 90 mins) is not enough time to make any judgements and neither is a training ground match in very early pre-season against lower league opposition. I hope his injuries are behind him, as I'm sure does everybody, but what is clear is that we shouldn't be making plans that include this guy playing the majority (or even a significant minority) of our games. That would be crazy. I hope he's great and can play lots of minutes this year but he should be considered a bonus player for this season at least and if we don't have cover for his position that would allow us to play an entire season assuming no contribution for him then we will have planned very poorly.

Let's see at least three new players to our first choice starting eleven if we wish to significantly improve on last season. If we fail to bring in these players we will tread water at best.
