As a player (not compared to who you might like to sign / think you should be signing)
Honest, hardworking grafter, full of energy (although not as quick as he was) good crosser, gets up and down and does his job defensively.
I would prefer to keep him. We seem to be ditching him and going after Lookman who seems to have none of the qualities above.
You will get more out of him than Barnard and he will be a positive influence around the place.
Not one for the future but will do a job for you for a couple of seasons.
Some of the comments about him on this thread are laughable.
Fair enough mate sounds solid enough a squad option my worry is he will end up being a first choice and we may not have the funds to buy anyone else for the right wing. If it's a one year deal with an option I guess I'll live with it although it's clearly a RB signing, quite what Brands's involvement is beyond negotiating deals, has to be questioned.

Moshiri says he wants to compete for Europe. And we could signing Townsend, seriously?. Is this guy an idiot.

Squad is stronger and we’ve not spent a penny. I’d much rather get players for free who can bolster the squad and use the funds on genuine first teamers than do what w shave even doing and spending huge sums on players who warm the bench most weeks.
I can see that point of view. It was kind of a joke mate as I see all three being back in the Championship in two or three seasons...

Townsend > Bernard & wages will be much less. But bloody hell, we’re better than this

Thing is, I don't think we are better than this :D

We have finished 12th and 10th in the last two seasons, we have just hired a manager who is deeply unpopular with the fanbase already and whose greatest achievement in recent times was winning the Champ with a Newcastle side who were by far the best in the division, and a DoF who has an extremely iffy track record with signings

Sounds like unless Kean goes out Dumfries could be our biggest signing that's even if we can scrape the pennies together for him. The rest frees and low cost signings...sigh...

Yes but we have also spent five hundred million over the last three or four seasons and only missed out on Europa league with a few wins, so I am still think we should be in the fight for sixth/ seventh.
