Had a realisation the other day: buying failed players from the biggest teams is actually a serious misjudgement. The theory is if Barca saw something in him then he is potentially world class.. doesn’t work.

the realisation was if a player cannot play well with world class players around him what chance does he have in a team where he would have to be more precise with his passes, be in space more accessible to others... very little.

so if you don’t look good in Barca (and the like) you’ll look even worse with us.

How often does a player who wants out, and makes it clear, do they actually stay?

For PSG, the man wants in, they can wait as long as they need, and if they make us panic at the end, will low ball us. This pathetic “loan with obligation”, is clearly an attempt at forcing our hand.

That's why we need to be strong...if there is no money for reinforcement so be it...we'll go with what we have, maybe a loan or 2 towards the end of the window...at least we would start the season with low expectations and who knows if Kean has improved as suggested by his numbers with psg we may get a bigger fee next summer.

Dunno. Digne looks good. The philosophy of buying players that haven't quite made it at bigger clubs has worked for Monchi in the last 20 years at Sevilla and they continue to use it

Indeed you also have to factor in that young players can develop later than others, two great examples you gave there.

We are finally coming to the end of that mad period. Next summer, Sigurdsson Tosun and Delph are all out of contract. There are others of course, but we should start recouping something in transfer fees.

Once Keane, Siggurdson and Tosun are finally off the books then the debacle of the 17/18 season will be finally close to being over. Thankfully we’ve managed to get rid of Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Rooney, Klaassen, Williams, Martina, Walcott, Lookman, Vlasic from that horrendous crop of players that arrived under Koeman and Allardyce.
