Not quite. How much, if any of a sale goes to the P&L depends on what the book value of the player sold is at that point.

Say Kean has a book value at the moment of £16m and we get £30m then the £14m goes to profit. If we sold him for £10m we’d show a £6m loss.

Probably what you meant, but your wording was a bit misleading.

If you want to be pedantic, the whole fee goes onto the books and then the difference of sale price and book value is reflected on the P/L :)

But my point was really about us getting the £14mil you used. We could (in theory) use that for £70mil worth of players on 5 year deals. We'd still need to settle the £56mil of course but on the books it would be £14mil a season.

At this stage I would take a cheap punt rather than settle for Coleman at right back who we know is going to get rinsed all season. It’s literally all we can do, we can’t afford a top right back.
Thing is, if that cheap punt starts getting rinsed too where do we turn.

Not saying that will happen, but even you have to admit that coming from a sub championship standard league is not great preparation for being thrown into the Premier League.

Nothing about being PL proven is it?

Dumfries is a senior Dutch international

Buta hasn't been capped for Portugal even as a reserve RB

Massive risk if he joins and ends up starting games in the PL. Celtic may be sniffing around him but the standard in the SPL to the PL is night and day - Baningme looks like Yaya Toure playing for Hearts.
The portugese right backs are very good players though mate. Ricardo Peirera, Diego Dalot and Joao Cancelo...

Dalot is Utds 2nd/3rd choice RB though mate so why settle for even less than that when we need this fella to be our 1st choice?

I would snap your hands off at Dalot on loan the way things are going.

Dalot just had a very good season at Milan and i wouldn't be surprised if he became their first choice right back over the course of the season. If we do sign this Buta he could be a very good player and earn a call up to the Portugal squad, he doesn't currently play in a top league so highly doubt he would get a look in anyway

Im a fan of Dalot...would United loan him to us though, with an option to buy.

There will always be pros and cons to each purchase. We've signed players that are "proven" at top flight level for big money, who have performed as if they came from the Vanarama National, and - albeit not for a while, unless you count Nkounkou's flashes of excellence - we've brought in some unknown/washed up/cheap players who have been great.

The situation at the moment dictates that we have to take risks on cheaper/unknown players. IF Brands is anywhere near as good as he was supposed to be, this is where he'll shine. If we sign 3-4 players at an average of £5m each and only one turns out to be a regular first XI starter, that is still a far better run rate than we've achieved in recent years!!
